Reading this thread has got me motivated to get my Langsett back from my brother’s garage loft once this lockdown business is sorted. I really need to see what state it’s in, and whether any of the (mostly early 1960s Campag) components are still on it and what condition they’re in.
Last time I rode it was in 1973 and last raced in 1972..
This is a very late, '77 or so, bike produced when Langsett tried to revive their brand. But your dates rule that out. Didn't last long though. It's for sale here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sheffield-La ... %7Ciid%3A1
Or, if it's one of the bikes produced between 1952 and '64 it can be identified from the frame number register in Stuart Smith's super little book about the history of Langsett bikes. When you retrieve it send me the frame number via this post and I'll look it up for you. Should be under the bottom bracket. And start a thread yourself - with pictures, 'cos we do love pictures!
They're just like buses - you don't see one for ages and then 2 come along at once

Mine is thought to be from about 1960, and originally bought for my older brother. It has (had?) early campag chain set with 54/48 rings, Lyotard Bethet pedals, Mafac CPs and Regina 14-21 freewheel. Sprints were Mavic on Campag LF QRs.
I acquired it when I started racing in 1970 after it had languished in the bike shed for some years. Which also meant that with the gearing, I was restricted to three gears for circuit racing (under 16s had to have a maximum gear of 76.2 inches in those days).
As soon as I can, I’ll get hold of the frame number.
The lining is perhaps a little thicker than I would have liked, but with these lugs quite a long brush stroke was needed, compared to one I did with nervex pro lugs which had much shorter bits to cover with one stroke. Overall I'm happy though - and the decals will lift it a bit more.
Well, what a load of balls...29 top and bottom. Perhaps there should be 30 but only 58 came out. They seem to be quite snug though.
I have little experience (for little read none) of clip headsets. A question - should I use the clip and its bolt to adjust the bearings, or the locknut? Or maybe a combination of the two? What's the process?
