Looking forward to seeing more of it come together. Should be superb once done mate. :)

Jamie

Cheers Jamie, I’m looking forward to riding it again. No chance this weekend though as it’s Our Jimmy’s birthday. :D
Wish Jimmy a happy birthday from down south and surely that's a perfectly good reason for a family outing?

Also I'd have gone with the white as well I think

Re: 1981 Claud Butler Colstar - DuraAce #035210

Shimano Aero end caps, strange little things. Obviously designed to have super thin 80’s/90’s Benotto tape so I was sure how this fat soft Shimano stuff would work out.
I added a layer of VHB double sided Stab tape to either end then got stretching. Reasonably happy.

And it's done... for now ;) The Yumeya & Flite Titanium have got it down to the magic 10kg. Can't wait to get back out on it.

Fantastic! It is certainly one very special Claud Butler.
It has come together perfectly, I was a bit worried that even after all the really special Dura Ace and Shimano goodies it wouldn't look quite the sum of it's parts if that makes sense, but need not have worried because it looks amazing and exudes class.

Thanks Jamie, I couldn’t be more pleased with it. Not so pleased with the main photo though, it looks much better to me in the flesh so to speak. I think I need a sunny day to get the best from it.

I do have one small addition, namely a small chrome half rack from a kids bike that I think will fit perfectly and give something to put a small day bag on for the longer rides I keep promising myself

Finally. I can put down the popcorn.

Very nice, very shiny, one very well appointed Claud Butler and I do like the small touches of all the posh shiny bits.

Thanks Allen, I think I’ve got it right with the best of the 80’s Aero AX & 90’s DuraAce bits & bats combined with arguably the best mechanical DuraAce group from the 2000’s, coupled with the best Holdsworth Claud frame in a paint scheme influenced by more traditional Claud’s.
Only thing I’m not sure on is the white Flite or the previous white Turbo. Only putting some miles on it will answer that one.

Ps I won’t be putting it in February’s comp, as a certain Geoffrey Butler will be getting my vote ;)

Found this half rack I guess originally from a kids bike? On that there eBay for a few quid. Fits perfectly at the clamp bolt and a couple of P clips have it secured to the stays, perfectly flat like it was made for it!
I’ve got a small under saddle bag that’s big enough to hold my keys, card wallet and inhaler, but this will allow me to carry something big enough for a spare inner tube, half pump & levers etc & a waterproof layer for those longer sojourns into the wilderness (the plains of Holderness) :D A1A9E06F-7064-4E0F-B09C-8322871CA9C3.jpeg 12FFE318-DA06-4709-9A42-203F75D29AC4.jpeg 623960A6-4354-41AF-8373-26CA49B8204C.jpeg EAAE0D93-614F-4739-9D3B-33E3A90CCE56.jpeg

One, well, two last additions... a pair of Yumeya jockey wheels. Designed for the XTR mech but fit perfectly into the DuraAce and run silky smooth. 😎 E797A9C8-75E1-4126-AC5B-70BA1ED116C2.jpeg 76FC8268-3C00-41C1-84F4-DB83A3A151D2.jpeg
