1988/89 part lugged, part fillet-brazed Raleigh frame

I took this frame with me to York Rally last weekend.

I am fairly set that I want to keep the top of it bare steel and clear coat it. The general consensus was that I should keep the rest of it as it is and clear coat over the whole frame. I've done a quick degrease this morning:

After York.webp

Next is to remove the small remaining bits of rattlecan paint, then clean up the steel.

I've ordered the clear coat, but now having doubts about whether I want to keep the painted parts as they are or go back to the plan of repainting the bottom half.

Any opinions? And if I keep it as it is, should I leave the reaining paint on the seat stay bridge to keep it better protected or remove the paint to further down the seat stays (original plan) to level out the horizontal paint line more.

I have a friend picking this up for me tomorrow. Look familiar?
Awesome! That's the model I presume mine was before the modification. It would be interesting to compare serials and whether yours has Gipiemme dropout forks - from the photo it looks like yours might have eyelets unlike mine.

Please post details once you have it!

Will do. I'm presuming it's an Ozark with Mountain LX parts - I have no other photos. Not sure when I'll see it but will ask him some questions. Cost me NZ$20 or GBP 8.92 so I'm prepared for some scruffiness. It might get the pub bike treatment but it's in a long queue for that role.

It looks very original, including the saddle. I don't know whether the paint scheme was an alternative to the main red/white or a mid-year model, stepping towards the fluorescent colours of the 90s.
