Overbury's Pioneer 1988 Updated 2021

Looks great, what a discovery :) If you need some more details, there is a review of an Overbury's Pioneer in MBUK Volume 1. issue No. 3. I only remember this as it was the first MBUK I read, and the bike was tested against a Saracen Trekker ( the bike I was eventually ended up riding). Think the Pioneer in the test had the same Exage Mountain components, U-brakes might possibly have featured tho'. Enjoy the restoration.

Re:

An very late update to a thread I started some time ago. ͏Li͏f͏e gets in the way sometimes! Apologies for lack of detailed build thread, it really wasn’t that interesting just a case of removing and cleaning parts and putting them back on again! This is a really original bike and I think deserves to stay as such. I’ve replaced cables and chain, also tyres. I’m not mad keen on the tyres but they’re tan wall and were cheap!

Ooof I forget every time how to upload photos! If anyone can edit or enlighten me I’d be grateful!

Re:

If you are dating it by the groupset the year is 1989 as Exage Mountain was only available for that one year before the 300/400/500LX came in 1990.

It is in truely epic timewarp condition though.

Carl.

Re:

Exage Mountain was 1988 and featured 18 speeds with an indexed front shifter.
1989 was Mountain LX which was 21 speed hyperglide and a friction front shifter and was a 1 year only groupset.

Amazing, what a time machine!

What’s the plan for it?

So far hanging in the garage looking pretty! My youngest daughter just about fits this now so hope to let her use this on family rides.

Thanks, I’ve got another ride I will get posted at some point which I think trumps this one in terms of originality and condition - an early 80s Araya/S&G. Much like the Overburys it came to me caked in ear wax looking grease and was well preserved!
