I felt sure that Kilauea colour was called Munificent Mustard but only references I can find are post on here from 2013: munificent

and colour of 1998 Kapu on Bikepedia: 98 Kapu

All the brochure and sales bumpf from mine just says Mustard.

"Munificent Mustard" has just rung a bell in my head from years ago! I'm sure I saw it described in mtb mags as that , definitely heard that colour name somewhere in the distant past.

Mmm, it's another anomaly. With an Integral Seat Post Clamp facing forwards, this should make it a 1990 frame. However, it has a U-Brake, which sits it in with the 1988 / 9 models .

Yes it does, all be it rather late in production, and does eliminate it from being a "backdated" 1989.

The nearest I have on file is this example of a 1990 with Track 2 forks, Integral Seat Post Clamp at the front, but no U-Brake:
