This is very bad news

There used to be a bridleway on back lane at burgh castle near me,it led to the marshes and a favourite big fishing stream of mine....the farmer kept locking the gate to stop people going to the stream to fish, but it was a public right of way,he was told about it by our local council several times and he wouldnt remove the lock, everytime we wanted to go fishing we took our bolt croppers and cut the lock off the gate......he replaced it and next time we cut it off.....he applied to have the route moved and after several months of fighting his corner he lost and had to pay all the costs.....this amounted to thousands of pounds.......

It is not easy to alter rights of way.

And some times "public" ownership is a good thing......

If no money is being made it may be because the inept government that was formally running it were unfit for purpose, and a company may be able to make it pay, also if they are not sold as a forest to bring some money in they may be sold as timber, that would be considerably worse....we dont want mass tree felling going on do we

Still out with the nasty jibes at people who have not insulted you ? I did give you the benefit of the doubt, pre ban. Post ban you did in your posting seem to be positively different, a breath of fresh air, but now it seems that has gone stale, tell me, is this your history.

But as the saying goes, leopards don't change their spots.

Really sorry to offend you.....but your negativity drags me down......
Your energy would maybe be better spent doing something positive like volunteering to help in a charity shop etc.....other than just complaining about the way you see life....

You are responsible for your own destiny....and if that is sitting about moaning all day then good for you :D

I see things as a worse case scenario, prepare myself for the worst and anything lesser is a plus. Surely even in business, that is a good mind set to adopt.

But, if you don't like what I write, simple, see my name on a post, don't read it, it's your choice, but I will respond to what I see as everyone else does on a free forum, and I will bring my variable character to my writings, just as everyone else does, even you.

But one thing that the internet has seemingly enabled, anonymous words people can be what they want to be, or are naturally.

The irony in all this is that the Forestry Commission have destroyed more ancient woodland than virtually any other land owner in history. They were set up after the first world war to grow timber for things like pit props, which required nice straight timber. as a result the cut down great swathes of ancient woodland to plant non-native conifer species. At the time they faced huge opposition from locals who felt that they were destroying the natural landscape. Many areas now covered by forestry commission woods were once beautiful open moorland areas.

Fortunately they have recognised the error of their ways and their planting is far more mixed and considers the impact on the landscape, wildlife, recreation and ecology as well as the timber requirement.

I am not saying that I agree or disagree with the plan to sell off the forests, just that we need to take a wider view of the forestry commission and its role in society. Some of my favourite trails have been ruined by contactors working for the commission tearing up paths and bridleways with logging machines. If a sale takes place with proper protection in place for rights of way, recreation and ancient woodland, then I imagine very little will change.

i see for your ill informed rant that your grasp of facts is pretty poor

1) The sale of gold was made after Treasury advise to diversify the nations assets and not hold all the reserves in gold

2) The tory govt privatised the steel industry in 1988

3) the Tory party were enthusiastic supporters of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan

4) I don't understand your jibe about single mothers - obviously the alleviation of poverty is not an objective you seem fit to support.

And finally I can't believe our privatised railways are better than br.

You sound like a man who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing.

Unless there's some big money changing hands with the funny handshake brigade(s) any change of use for woodland will most likely be met with a rather solid wall.

I suspect the location and local geography would make the majority wholly unsuitable (for developing) anyway.
What I'm wondering, then - given what you've written - is what's in it for the buyer?

And you're energy would be better spent avoiding the cheap jibes. There's no need for it, and all it does is cause issues and tension.

You, are also responsible for your own destiny and how you deal with people, here.
