This is very bad news

No, Radford wood.

But privatisation, do we remember the last great sell off of public assets, telecommunications, energy, water and gas, British Rail and others you know the jewels in the crown, well, many believe we have a worse service now than before and furthermore, much of it is in foreign hands. Myself as a public transport user, well, I can tell you, it sucks, big time, expensive and unreliable and in private hands, and I do remember the service before, and it was better, both cheaper and more reliable.

Added to that, is Britons tend not to trust the government, so are naturally suspicious.

The present government it has been said are out of touch with the people of this country, most of them being people who were born with a silver spoon in their mouth, and as a recent documentry suggested, elitist toffs.

Myself besides not trusting any government, I do get the feeling that those that control this country want us to be a client country in that we buy our lives from others as opposed to creating our own lives.

Selling off public assets is we are told good for the economy, again, who does the economy serve.

Anyway, today is the day the public get at the government, and there are over ninety public figures who have signed a letter to the government, to not sell the forests ;

The ecconomy serves us all. Boom or bust, inflation, reccession all affects us in our daily lives.

You have made it very obvious in your time here that you despise the government and 'the system'. Time and time again, you endlessly bang on about it. This government has inherited a right bloody mess of a country, and like them or not, i do not envy them for the hard job they have of sorting it out. You constantly criticize their efforts to improve the situation, complaining about your lot, yet spend all day on here, no doubt at tax payers expense.
If you don't like public services, public transport etc then how about you take that big chip of your shoulder, go out and positivly contribute by putting the energies you spend on here whinging into finding a bloody job.

British Rail being better than Railtrack??? Really????

I've worked with a fair few people who used to work for British Rail and they're description of a days work was hilarious, work 2 hours then get pissed was generally the ethos.

Ever wondered why there have been so many 'signals failures', and the seemingly endless rounds of maintenance on Britain's railways?

The answer is state funded years of neglect. It doesn't matter which state that was either.

The programme you mention about Tories being elitist toffs??? I watched that too, it was about ALL MPs being elitist toffs, not just tories.

Ok.. been waiting for my Countryside Alliance newsletter to hit my inbox to see what they say..

Today the Government has launched a consultation on the future of the public forest estate. The Countryside Alliance supports - in principle - the transfer of the public forest estate into private or charitable ownership. The majority of woodland and forests in the UK are privately owned and are managed sustainably. Most already provide public access, recreation opportunities and local employment, whilst contributing to the economy and showcasing areas of significant conservation value.

However, substantial public benefits in the public forest estate must be protected if they are transferred to private bodies, charities or community groups. We will utilise the Government consultation to stress that benefits such as outstanding landscape, biodiversity character and high levels of recreational access, including country sports, must be protected through Government legislation.

We welcome the proposal that local communities will be given priority in the transfer of small commercial and multi-purpose forest and woodlands. Local and specialist knowledge offered by community groups will only enhance forests and woodlands and provide more power for communities to shape the places in which they live.

great

Lets sell off assets that are not really ours to sell during a recession 'Yes i do mean recession' a double dip recession caused by heavy handed morons making cut backs and hiking up taxs just when things were beginning to come round. well back to my point surely these woodlands would be worth next to nothing during a recession and 3 times that value afterwards. this idiotic idea is so flawed it can only be compared to a government that lacks direction, purpose and any actual intelligence

Our woodlands and forest are exactly that (OURS)

This all reeks of desperation by a coalition government that is falling apart at the seems
