Early 1993 Brodie "BHDT" eXpresso - FINISHED Part 2 :)

Re:

Ok so I heard from Paul :)

My #2344 frame is an eXpresso built January 8, 1993. It was the first of two bikes built with the a larger downtube and seatstays. Its all tange.

Explains all the 1992 components.

Re: Brodie Expresso Restoration Project ... Advice Welcome :)

cool. explains the earlier serial number than my catalyst then. so my sovereign sits between your eXpresso and the catalyst.

Re:

Looks like its also the first of the "eXpresso" designed frames. They only made two like this before they switch dropout styles and changed to routing to the later 93/94 model. Sorta cool ... a 1 of 2 frame with a bit of history. I wonder how it ended up here??

I was looking at the left over cables trying to hypothesize the fork. The original owner said it had "an old gold fork on it" that he gave away. The housing lengths make sense for a old mag 20 or 21, or some sort of headset positioned cable hanger.

I have a set of NOS Tange Fatty struts that would work with it as well ... might look a bit too much like a fat chance though. I do have that set of Mags on the way as well.

Re: Brodie Expresso Restoration Project ... Advice Welcome :)

Got another email from Paul.

It is very likely that this is the first frame decaled with the 'expresso' name, but its not technically an expresso ... or a sovereign, or a catalyst. It does look like it has elements of them all.

Paul created two frames (I assume mine #2344 and another #2345) in early Jan 1993 built with all Tange that he called BHDT (big heavy down tube). Just a two off. I guess that also explains why my frame looks so much like a Catalyst. Its sorta like a Catalyst with a bigger downtube. Somewhere there is one like this one (maybe someone has it). The official first Expresso in its more typical form was made in May 1993 #2412 (also with a heavier downtube).

It would have also had Gators on it, which the previous owner likely replaced with rockshox at some point. Gonna have to cash in a lot of bike karma to find a set of those forks!

Re:

Got these in the mail. They were a bit of a gamble, but I couldn't go too wrong for the price.

On the plus side, they work and hold air.

On the down side they were suppose to be mag21s ... They ain't! It was also suppose to be 1 1/8" ... They are 1 1/4".

Good excuse to get a Klein project going I guess :)

Re:

Fork option 2 ...

NOS Tange "Fat" Blades. Sort of leaning towards a bouncy fork. I have been wanting to do a match painted frame and rockshox mag for a project.

Still ... if someone has some gators :D

Re:

Took three swings at Gators for this thing and struck out. No more delays on the build.

Most if not all the parts are here, some on route, and a couple still to pick. I need to do some anodizing of some parts if I find the new powder coat colour do my liking. If it looks good it will be bright and need a lot of black parts. If I stick with black all the silver bits will be fine.

The build should be as follows:

Frame: 1993 Brodie eXpresso

Re: Brodie Expresso Restoration Project ... Advice Welcome :)

Nice to see this one coming together! I "Might" have a spare brodie brake booster... do you need one?

Nice rooster =)

Are you looking for a black one? thought you were going to powder cost the purple one?

Re: Brodie Expresso Restoration Project ... Advice Welcome :)

I'll probably need another brace. Gotta balance the thing out.

I'll powder or anodize the purple one, but I heard rumors of a guy with a black one that really wants another $75 in his pocket :)
