Early 1993 Brodie "BHDT" eXpresso - FINISHED Part 2 :)

Re: Brodie Expresso Restoration Project ... Advice Welcome :)

i thought 93 was the last year of the "Catalyst" which was then replaced in 94 by the "eXpresso" model.

Re: Brodie Expresso Restoration Project ... Advice Welcome :)

okay this is odd, your serial number is earlier than that of the 18" catalyst i had, stamped 2521 which was confirmed by Paul being May 93. Also my Sovereign has an even earlier serial number of 2466. :?

Re:

Now I am more confused! Actually I was second guessing the age again.

Looking at the 1994 Expresso the latest it could be is very early 1994. The kicker is that my frame has the older dropouts. Actually ... it has dropouts like a Catalyst. I had a thought that it may actually be a catalyst given the dropouts and front derailleur bottom pull, and a secondary thought that there may have been a time when the catalyst was fazed out and the expresso was fazed in ... all they did was redecal them. But I am just taking shots in the dark.

The fact that it has a long cage derailleur (another difference from the 1994) might mean its 1991-1993 as they XT 735 Long Cage was more common for those years. The group set is certainly no newer than 1993 and no later than 1990 given the DX shifters. But ...

Does the bottom bracket give an idea of age? Its a BB-MT60 (DX Group '88-'91). It was replaced in 1992 by the BB-UN70 (same as the XT).

Re: Brodie Expresso Restoration Project ... Advice Welcome :)

i'm curious what's the difference between the models… tubing, geometry??? aside from the size, the catalyst i had looked pretty much like the sovereign. and your eXpresso looks near identical to the catalyst.

you could try your luck and try to contact Paul with your serial number to try and get a confirmation of model/year.

I know the sovereign has curved supports above the rear wheel. The Catalyst and Expresso look basically the same, but the expresso changes cable routing and dropouts after 1993.

No idea on the geometry or tubing diffs. What headtube size was on your two Brodies? Mine is 1 1/8

I don't even know how I would contact Paul Brodie :?

In build news ... I think I have a fork on the way :D

Re: Brodie Expresso Restoration Project ... Advice Welcome :)

my sovereign doesn't have "curved" supports, looks identical to the catalyst and to your eXpresso in design and tubing shape/dimension. maybe my sovereign isn't one??? :? both were 1-1/8".

as for contacting Paul himself, he has a website: http://flashbackfab.com

or you could ask Retro_Roy to see if he could help on your behalf. he should chime in on this thread soon i would think. ;)

what fork are you getting, a gator??? :D

Re: Brodie Expresso Restoration Project ... Advice Welcome :)

There goes that theory! I don't know. I was kinda hoping the older Brodies were 1" so I could rule out some years.

I will try contacting him. Maybe I'll get an answer if I ask nicely.

No Gators ... yet. I may have a lead on one though. Original Mag21. I got a seemingly good deal on a set that looks good in the pics and I have a NOS rebuild kit I have been itching to use. Everything will be powercoated matchy matchy

Re: Brodie Expresso Restoration Project ... Advice Welcome :)

Here's something else to muddy the waters ...

A Sovereign, painted in 1993 with a serial number of #2632

http://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/1422700/

And it has straight supports like yours!

Starting to think there is no relationship between serial# and year!

Re: Brodie Expresso Restoration Project ... Advice Welcome :)

if you're talking sequence, maybe not. but Paul does have records of serial numbers to identify the model and year.

He must have a different way of doing it. I saw a climbmax on line with a serial # in the 4000s. Hopefully he gets back to me. Pretty Curious now that I have done a bunch of looking online.

I am going to guess 1992 vintage. Old Stock Catalyst frame decaled to Expresso.
