Car thread: TVR Tuscan

.

I don't have much experience with TVR's. But what I do know is don't buy an early Cerbera, for some reason known only to TVR they have horizontaly mounted radiators. Which is great when you are doing 120mph but not so good in a 20 mile tailback on the M25. My mate who owned one had 2 full engine rebuilds by TVR before his mrs convinced him to part with it.
Currently toying with purchasing a VX220 turbo, a lot of bang for your bucks and cheaper and more user friendly than an Elise. :D

Sorry for the O/T but I saw a De Tomaso Pantera in a music vid tonight, how freekin awesome were they 8)

One of our 'associate' MacMillan nurses has (had??, as I haven't seen her in it recently) a yellow VX220.
She loved it.

A 'school-run dad' had a Lotus Exige (the usually orange one, with the rear 'wing')
He sold it, as they emigrated to Oz.

Depends on where you drive - for straight line raise a smile performance - any '80's Nissan/ Toyota/ Mitsubishi turbo powered car is a hoot.

for Pennine runs, I'd heartilly recomend a Mercedes 500 SEC pre facelift 1981 ~ 85 model

160mph top speed with nearly 30mpg on a long run and a 245 BHP Imprattza eating performance

thats out of the box, even before 'improvements'! (£5k for mint car, £5k for 'supercharger' upgrade.....)

Cheap for servicing and cheap for replacement panels ( they can rust!)

Only hairy chested types need apply....

There is a dark metalic Burgundy one on Maison Blanche every year at Le Mans and its fantastic. The paint is unbeleivable and is so glossy and deep it looks like you could put your hand into it. Makes a nice noise too. However, they have to be THE rustiest of all italian cars (which is some statement). My mate has one and he had to do loads of repair work- even the screen pillars were rusted out. Word has it that the factory was right on the coast and the unpainted shells sat outside for weeks before painting.

Sorry guys the most bang for your bucks has got to be the Nissan 350Z, 4 years ago I had a Jap Import, called the Fairlady Z

3.5 litre, straight V6, No silly expensive turbo chargers to go wrong. Limited to 159 mph but that can be sorted.... The engine comes in the list of 10 Best Engines in World's. This is an annual list of the ten "best" automobile engines available in the U.S. market that are selected by Ward's AutoWorld magazine. The Nissan engine has been in this list since it was brought out in 2002. Have a look, it's the VQ35** model.

The lifespan is quoted as being 250k miles !!!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ward%27s_10_Best_Engines

Here's a few pics of mine, full leather, Sat Nav, BOSE Stereo, Cruise, etc, etc. Sourced some '350 Z' decals off eBay and away you go (very very fast)

Sadly Baby came car had to go, 2 seats a big no no. I'm driving a 6 month old Saab Sportwagon Aero at the moment, yeah it shifts but just isn't in the same league. God I miss the grunt of the V6 :(

Nothing ever went wrong with this car in the two years that I owned it. With the 370Z being released there's going to be some bargains to be had.

Couple of pics

Perhaps so, but we looked at one after deciding against the Cerbera & we both though that it felt like it had 'no soul'

We also test-drove a RX8, & that has some charisma, but you felt as though you always wanted to drive it faster than was sensible.

Could have been the low noise, easy revving engine, high rev limit??

(it was easier to get into the back of it than the XKR! - even with the long doors on the XKR)

Thing is with the RX8 its got diabolical residuals at the moment. I really don't like the way they drive, unless you get the revs up they are mediocre. Dare I say 'Not really a sports car.' The engine just has no torque and my brothers been getting an average of 16 mpg in his '07 one. (16 mpg !!!!!) To me the RX8 is an everyday drive with a quick side.

The RX7 was a far better car, many people say that the RX8 is just an underpowered RX7 that met Californian Emissions. You really don't want anything going wrong with that Rotary so I would not consider one that's got high miles on it or even outside of the warranty. Although I am aware that Mazda are looking at upping the Warranty from 60k to 100k miles.

I disagree with 'no soul' for the Z, but as they say 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder' and about 30 million Jap Teenagers would agree with me :) I remember having a big grin all over my faces when I pulled away from a Boxster S who had been aggressively tailgating me coming back from Brecon on the A470. The Z is a Japanese Muscle Car and not too everyone's taste.

I see you mentioned the S2000. This is a good car. The VTec engine is awesome at high revs and it is a quality car. The S2000 has now ended production and when Honda bring out a new model this might have an adverse affect on residuals.

I've owned some fast cars and some crap cars but would recommend the 350Z over all of them just for the grin it can put on your face. 8)
