Re chroming forks.

I have a pair of forks that need stripping and rechroming. Nothing major wrong with them.
A couple of questions...
1) Do they need to be hard chrome or will soft chrome be sufficient?
2) Any suggestions as to who is the best to do the work?

Hard chrome is for engineering sliding surface parts. You only need decorative chrome.
Search for a local platers and check reviews with the usual caveats.

Chrome plating is dying out rapidly in the UK. The chemicals involved are becoming increasingly expensive and difficult to purchase without legal hoops to leap through.
I recently asked for a quote to do my rear stays - £450!!!
There are industrial chromers on my doorstep who refuse to do anything old, even if its bare metal stripped.
I gave up wasting time on the forks and bought a brand new set of Columbus slx, fully chromed from Condor, cheaper than rechroming the old ones.

Prices are now nuts! Set of bars for a resto on a triumph we did....£200 trade...if you can find somebody willing to touch old stuff.

20 years ago that would have been £30 and had a choice of half a dozen places within 25 miles!
