Need help with the ID of a specialized + seat cluster pics

I think the rack mounts at the top of the seat stays are in the wrong place for a RHopper, also the directdrive stays are more pronounced on this one and the dropout is far sharper. I'd say stumpie, from early 90s, 92/93.
I can't see any upper rack mounts, but if they're brazed into the stays, I agree it's a Stumpjumper. The stay profile and dropouts were common to both bikes though in the mid nineties:

That's a '96 Rockhopper dropout.

I'm finding it hard to judge proportions from the pictures, but I'm fairly sure that's oversized steel and a 1 1/8" headset. That would make it no earlier than '95, so I'm going to say '96. That would fit with the serial number. If it's got a canti bridge, that would fit too. I think the '95 used a noodle guide at the seat cluster.

cheers for your help so far, is any one able to pass judgement on definitive ID from the serial number? Does the m2 have relevance? Is it a96 model (I would be looking in the gallery except I'm using my iPod for web access and the PDF docs don't seem to like loading)

Looks like an early ARGOS paint job,i had a Kona done with the Klein copy paint scheme BITD  for my sins, looked exactly the same

Generally, Specialized used the first letter as the factory, second digit as the last digit in the year and the third as as the month (a=jan, f=feb...). Usually by October or so they would have been the next model year bike.

Yours should be from October of 1994 which would likely have been a 1995 model year bike."

That would make yours a '92. But I've got a '92 Stumpjumper, and it doesn't look anything like yours. The serial number has a different form too: 91G2790

It would be really helpful if you could give the steerer size, seatpost size, and post a better picture of the seat cluster.

Im affraid ive not got any photos yet, i think my camera is still packed from my weekend away.

will get it done though.

Size wise its around 16" c-t 15.5 c-c

It will be for sale, there is already one person interested in it. Id rather nail down the ID of it before I sell it though, to save dissapointment at the buyers end if it turns out to be a rockhopper.
