"VRC, we have lost cabin pressure…"

This thread got rather off the point. Personally I felt that GM was jumping to too many conclusions on the basis of circumstantial evidence rather than proof. But having said that, there is a problem if anyone ever disparages an item in a forum discussion and then proceeds to bid for it. Why would you do that?

Speaking for myself, I often question the accuracy of an eBay description, but having suggested on the forum that say a frame with an Explosif decal wasn’t a genuine Explosif, I wouldn’t dream of then bidding for it and saying when I received it ‘oh what a surprise, it is an Explosif after all, lucky me for getting it so cheap’. If I did, I trust I would be in trouble with the moderators here.

One good thing arising from this thread might be if the VRC moderators read Mr Kawasaki’s exemplary and civilised contribution and realise that that is how moderating should be done.

Totally agree with you there, far more civilised and considerate to members feelings.

Post's turned into a bit of a farce, with people having a laugh and joke at anothers members expense. Shame on you  A member who has been booted from another forum under a dark dark cloud. This is RetroBike which to me is the friendliest and most helpful forum on the web. My experience with this member on here has always been positive but I can't say how others feel.

Business and friendships do not mix. There is serious money being made out there I've made over £1k myself this last 12 months selling only 'bits and bobs' mainly on eBay but also on here. Perhaps the member in question went about it the wrong way. I don't know. There seems to be a bit of 'history' going on that I'm not privy to. But if there is some sort of price setting going on it probably won't affect the vast majority as they can't afford the 'uber' rare type bikes. But to take the p*ss in an open forum is right out of order

After reading all the relevant material relating to this subject.
I conclude that i havent a scoobie as to whats going on

furthermore i have concluded that i dont really care :D

What i do care about is this site and no other :D

Here people are nice :D

I think this thread should be moved to Singletrack's forum. :D

People are taking the piss because its all a little bit silly in the first place. Its about time some people got real- its old fecking bikes for christs sake. Retrobike is escapism from the drudgery of modern times- if I wanted politics and bitching i'd join the WI.
I'm sure gm is a smashing chap as all RB members are, but if he has been a naughty boy then he should be made to go to bed without supper and not be allowed to play out for the rest of the week. Its not taking sides- there are rules, written and unwritten and if boundries have been crossed- and this goes for Rumfy, Bushpig and co on the otherside of the playground, then a price has to be paid.

Now can we all get back to pondering the art of CNC or whatever?

Just me two penarth

Taking this thread "off the point" was the point of those who did it imho.

Regarding the undervaluing/rating poorly of an ebay vrc item, to then buy it cheaply, can be viewed as gamemanship, though it does seem unethical. Perhaps some should not be so quick to seek or take the opinions of others as if they are gospel...ever heard that quaint phrase regarding opinions being like a certain body part. Best advice is to do an independent research, (i.e. put a little work into it), and go with that, and your gut.

Regarding MR. K's modding, from what I see it is quite good, but that is not to say that modding over on VRC isn't. Modding is many times a tough and most of the time thankless job...rather labor of love. I doubt many, if any, do it for the prestiege.

IMO, bushpig was right for editing and attempting to put out the flames in that other thread...so what if inquiring minds want to know. What exactly were you getting to know?

I feel no shame regarding my lighter view of this situation. Like I've stated, these things will happen on internet forums catering to crowd of enthusiasts and collectors and even fans. GM knew what he was doing, and decided that the risk was worth it; I say take the ban as a red badge of courage and move on. Regarding the ban, very few are "never lifted"; never is a long time.

In regards to "friends and business not mixing". I couldn't disagree more, so long as both parties are fair to one another. It's when one tries to get over on the other that business leaves a sour taste in the mouth of the one that was taken, and friendships fail. The Golden Rule applies here.

...and I don't want to find out that the usual suspects around here are trying to corner the market on cakes and cookies....

I don't want to even see a spike in the cost of jammy dogers, bourbon creams, hobnobs, etc.

If, I do... I'm gonna open up a can of internet whoop ass on the whole lot!

Completely agree. I'm used to message boards like Discoweb and Pirate4x4, and I've sworn them off since finding Retrobike. I do think there are certainly different ways that Americans and Euros address their board participation. It used to drive me nuts that all banter on Discoweb always led to the flexing of 'monitor muscles'. Life is too short. I still love my Land Rover, but the 4x4 culture here in the states is psychotic.

I have to remind myself that I'm not on one of those other sites anymore, when I'm logged in to Retrobike. I catch myslef typing something very sarcastic and biting, and I see the need to boil off some aggression before I post it here. Not that I want to turn this thread into a hug-fest, or divert it from it's Rumpfy-in-a-Black-Cloak direction, but John and the mods have done a great job molding the mood here in the hallowed halls of Retrobike, and I wouldn't change a thing. As a registered 'guest' using this site, I owe it to the mods to not act like a complete jerk to other registered members. I probably owe it to my parents too, but that's another story! :D

I don't understand why people think they can say anything they want to each other, all under the excuse that "Hey, he posted a picture of that POS, so I'm within my rights to rip him a new corn-hole. I mean, are you really within your rights to ever do that? No matter what he posts? Amybrooke mentioned that the quality of the biked here on RB represented something of a lesser quality than that which is posted on VRC, and I think that's a pretty unfair statement. They are different, but 'less' is a term representing a value that I think isn't in his right to assign.

Someone else said earlier, that the mods set the tone, and then reap what they sow. There's some truth there. If a board is based on cutting each other to pieces, even in sarcasm and humor, then is it any wonder that somebody takes the next step and decides that everybody is against them? I don't think Rumpfy or and of the fellas at VRC are doing anything nutty, and the whole price fixing thing is pretty funny, as an allegation. But I can understand why somebody who just hops in over there would think that they are firmly on the outside looking in. I do.

If I posted my Beast of the East or my EWRs on VRC, I'd be shredded. And that's a real shame.
