The Curse of SUP ..... SORTED

I have this clicking sound emanating from a Mavic Crossland rim which was made using the SUP process (Soude, Udine Proces) soldered and then welded which apparently makes for a smoother joint  However I think the pin used in the soldering part has come loose and is causing the clicking. I think I've read about this problem somewhere on here but I wonder if anyone has experienced it and even managed to fix it. Thanks.

Re: The Curse of SUP .....

I've fixed this before. What I did was find a small pointed screwdriver and pushed the pin/joint thing in as far as it could go, then used the screwdriver with a hammer and tapped the inner rim to create a burr that held the wedge in place. You could glue it in place as well though.

Re: The Curse of SUP .....

Or, some joker put a spoke nipple in the rim when it was being built up!

I've had that a number of times now.

I have this problem also and physical took the rim apart looking for a rogue nipple etc never found it,
put the rim back and years later built it up again forgetting about the clicking noise, if annoys the f&*k out of me.

I don't follow the above ^^ but will have a look tonight and hope its obvious once the tyre and rim tape is off.

Thanks

It really works :D I gave the rim the screwdriver and hammer treatment yesterday and went for a test ride round the block. No clickage :D Oh happy day :D

Thanks Ian. 8) :D

Finally got round to tackling mine, and the joint was so far out of position it was un real, after following the method above and a spot epoxy resin to keep it there, I now have a quiet rim :D

Gotta love this place
