Interesting. Well, I'll be able to rotate the bar forwards/backwards and cut the steerer tube to achieve that I hope. Don't think I can afford another stem! Unless I buy one of those cheap adjustable ones.

The stem can only rotate the bar around the hinge, and is a fixed length.

The chance that it gets the right position, to within the critical 5mm, is fairly close to 0

We take them off loads of stuff and fit the right size.
The adjustable often goes in the recycling.

That does away with the horrible risk of loosening pivot they develop.
