I'm thinking of adding one to the stable this year as a replacement for the Cotic. I really love the look of those Niners. Cool looking bikes and supposed to ride well too. I notice that On O*e make a carbon 29er now that i'm loath to admit looks rather nice and is a good price. I must be ready for my medicine.
Lots to choose from Si in the Cotic mould, have a look at Vassago,Banshee/Paradox, Canfield, Chumba. I'm watching an auction just now and might add another to the collection. The On one is on sale at the moment.
A bit retro, the Curtlo Mountaineer 29" singlespeed, frame from the retrobike classifieds IIRC:
And my Santa Cruz Tallboy, not retro but for the Ringle H20 "there can be only one"
I love my 29ers, and if you are looking for steel check out the Salsa site too
Meantime, gone but not forgotten, the Lenz that started it all 3 years ago:
very tempted to run mine single speed in the summer, i have a chris king SS ring and the bike is fitted with a EBB.
this is the only 29er i have rode, and its a pleasant experience.
at first the front wheel seemed huge when turning, but i learned to use it to my advantage. the extra height is really handy too, and the bike rolls over rocks and logs way better than a 26'' bike.
they pick up speed really well too, though running a 3x6 set up i reach top speed too easy.
