Sold Mid 80s univega alpina pro

Every time I look at this photo I'm convinced he's wearing braces, but he's not!

Love the way the bottom of his shorts perfectly aligns with the top tube. Composition perfection! ;)
I think braces would have made the look more natural, rather than the shorts just naturally resting in the nutcracker position.

I agree with your observations about the top tube and his shorts, that was very neat and hopefully intentional.

The POWER of suggestive 80s advertising photography. I think you might need a lie down @Imlach, away from your phone incase the Univega man urges you to have just one more sneaky look long enough for his invisible braces to magically appear for the chosen few...

Congrats! and I'm also interested to see more details.

Up to you, but i personally wouldn't change too much, "comfy adventure bike" sounds a bit like you have plans for a re-build.
This is a very early bike, from what i can see in very good condition and almost with all original parts (other than saddle and tires). Owning this now comes with a bit of burden to preserve it, or at least having a guilty conscience ;)

Attaching also a picture form the 1985 brochure, not exactly your bike, but very close.
(it might be rather 86 model, --> 87 brochure at Mombat)

As you can see easily, also this guy on the picture seem to be a proud owner. Looking forward to see you next to this bike in a similar style.
Thank you for the brochure link! I think it's a 1986 too, based on the stickers and the 'aero crown' for the forks, as this feature was present in brochures from 1983-1985, yet I couldn't find it anymore in 1987.

I didn't have too much of a concrete plan back then - but now I feel like I'm convinced to keep its components and aesthetics true to its era. Looks really good with the silver components in the brochure. Currently I'm just thinking of adding some silver metal fenders and racks...?

And also some shorter shorts for an accurate look

Reckon it'll be plenty comfy already mate

That stem and bar combo, perfect comfy ATB.

I'd just get a comfier saddle and then ride it into the woods and never return, settling in a hollow tree tunk, an all terrain hermit, cycling only to forage. Then die of malnutrition. But that's just me.
That does sound very appealing...good thing I have my Brooks C17 ready. Now all I need is the bike (and perhaps some slightly better weather?)
