Kona Ku Serial Number List - update 13/06/25

The issue with decals under lacquer is that you can feel them/ see them if they aren't waterslide. There isn't much alterative though unfortunately.

I think removing a headset or even fitting one is best done yourself. Issue with bike shops is that they will simply do it like every other bike.

When i did mine i took my time. Gradually pushed it cup in indivually , and constantly made sure it was going in straight.

Usually a headset takes like 1 minute , i think i spent a good 20mins on the green Ku.

On the orange Ku i turned down the headset so it presses in by hand. My research suggested the 97 was far more likely to crack so didn't risk it.

Exactly this. The 98 Ku's, whilst treated with care, should be fine. Pre 98...you're playing Russian roulette with 2 spins left...

Ok I’ll do it myself then and take my time (as I always have done on headsets).

Hopefully as you say the 98 ‘should’ be ok with the reinforced headtube flares.

With ref to the decals, I agree the thickness is a negative but I’d prefer them to be under lacquer so I don’t see any alternative really.

If you are sending it to @danson67 to remove the dent, Im sure he can remove the headset. But also send him the new headset to add a relief channel too.
