NOS XTII thumbies..... I just don't understand how they can be quadruple the price of an immaculate used set (and the bidding is not over), is the original packaging really worth that much of a premium? Or is it because they are XTII's?

I have complete Deore II group, nobody seems to want that stuff at all....

whats the relevence of XT '2' ?

Nothing really, the difference is that the previous XT thumbies were 6 speed rather than the 7 of XT 'II'. Similar story for the 7 speed DX thumbies which were also labelled 'II'.

are these the ones with the extra click for running 8 speeds? This is about what they go for NOS in package. It'll be stored away somewhere.

Sweet. They only made a few million of those.
There is a guy here in San Diego who bought out a warehouse previously owned by Mammoth cycles. He got several of their frames along with a small room full of NOS shimano parts, DX, XT U-brakes, hubs, Thumb shifters and cassettes. He is sitting on a goldmine.

Does he know what he is sitting on, or does he think it's just a bunch of old bike parts?

nice. imho, very useful, and if you do the math on a set of paul thumb shifter mounts, plus ultegra or dura ace shifters, it starts to get up there. Used the XT with the extra friction shift go for $50 to $80.

I'd never pay this much for these nos, when used work just fine, but I could understand it, especially if you are not sitting on a secret stash or have connections to one.

Yeah I love my thumbies and as you say Paul mounts plus the difficulty in finding cheap DA shifters keeps the prices of these bouyant - I too wouldn;t spend that but can understand why some would
