How Good A Racer Were You BITD?

I remember the cross countrys of the early 90's at Cannock etc where the entries were just enormous, its a real pity its not like that anymore.Big respect to ameybrook, representing your country is a huge achievement, some of the guys I train with have ridden for GB on the road and try to talk it down but its always impressive.

did quite a few races down south and oop north in the 90s,did ok,never really bothered me tho, just raced and smiled lots.then raced bmx later in the 90s and won a few, national champs 98 stood out alot cos i got a bigger cheer for tableing the jumps and not going flat out than the top 3 racers got lol.then did a few king of dirts but 360 backflips were a bit outta my league so started organising local jams for the groms. then did nowt really for 4 years or so then rediscovered mtbs and a year later retrobike! bug bit bad but never going to be competative again :( .never mind the surfs good at the mo

Ditto

I'm having fun staying fit and riding bikes, but I wont race again (I dont count Mountain Mayhem  ).

After being at the top of my game before, I'd want to be there again but know I never could. So, I wont put myself through it again.

I enjoyed fun XC in the early days but that was ruined by as said before sport & expert riders warming up ...The worst being at Chepstow when I was the ONLY non shop sponsered rider ..... Still enjoyed it loads

Then did downhill which loved to bits just caught it right when people turned up on crazy homebuilt beasts rather than shop brought D/H steeds and before the courses were just jumps!?!? Never that great but loved it ..best moment at Henley upon thames in heavy rain and mud when I found me slim XC mud wheels in the back of the van totally ripped the course then the chain device swung round and jammed it all up  still gutted now

Proudest moment has to be my crash at Chedder on the devils downhill... I launched so high i cleared the spectators who prompley picked me back up found my bike, sat me on it and pushed me off again ... I really have no idea how I got to the bottom but I did.... stopped fell off and spent next hour in St Johns!!! ha.ha :D

may enter a couple of local dh this winter for a giggle at willingham near market rasen.hopelessly slow compared to 9stone 16 year olds but with experience and bmx skills etc i could do ok i rek, watch this space :D

Scant wrote - I'm just waiting for Tim Davies to respond.. 7th 91 world champs, british NPS champ etc

All seems a distant memory now  my five year old son makes his cyclo cross debut on Saturday, so it is time to forget about the past and give my boys the same opportunities I had - thats if they want to go down the same route.
