Tommy, you were spot on.Probably doesn't need much work to turn it into a Tourer
Rigid forks, wider bars and if it's only for road/ light offroad touring you'll be able to fit wider Slicks than Knobblies.
There's a whole world of 'alt' bars out there if you want. My kona has 695mm straight bars on and handles better for it than with some 560s. There's also plenty of unusual shapes.
