Cycling: is there a spiritual side to it?

All human beings are drenched in insecurity about the very essence of their being, and it can be masked but it's still there. None of us have a clue. We make it up as we go along.
Not sure about that. Been an atheist since I started thinking for myself outside of the family line on such matters. I don't have a clue about a purpose & am totally accepting of that. Essence of my being? Not something I think about. I'm very aware I operate within an evolved system for better or worse unlike our earliest hunter gatherer ancestors & go along with it willingly, taking daft pleasure in things such as retro MTB's. Old age - I worry about physical or mental decline but not death. While death may be inconvenient my atoms will just return to the the random distribution they were in before I was conceived. No heaven - no hell. I'm cool with that.

That is the book on his theory of morphic resonance, the idea that plants have shared memory I think? Haven't read it, I started Science and spiritual practices which is my first. It fits more in my field of interest.
Yep. Morphic fields, resonance, etc. It's about more than just plants; it's an attempt to answer the question of how things develop into 'forms', whether that's at the molecular level or higher. Interesting question but I'm not convinced by his solution.

I think it is regarded as pseudo science and has not been taken seriously. But then more ideas in science were initially rejected.

He does have some criticisms on modern science that I found interesting. He did a Ted talk on it.

I feel my spirit lifted and a great sense of relaxation when in solitude on my bike, so yes, for me there is very much a ‘spiritual’ aspect to cycling which I greatly appreciate and am thankful for.

This pic from a ride in the Hebrides i think illustrates those feelings, for me at least, perfectly.

It looks like a a warm place, but it probably wasn't?

We're all worm food and everything is futile, but our brief lives are wondrous things full of infinite possibilities - society has evolved to be so complex that it can do your head in, but you really don't have to engage with all the pressures. One thing i have learnt is the power of saying no to things. But i digress. In my experience there are so many things that i /we fail to comprehend and so many organisms communicating with each others in ways that we can't perceive that i sometimes feel we need to explain things by reference to a higher force... and maybe that's right, but i'm not the man to ask. Sometimes i laugh at the ridiculousness of wearing trousers and i really don't know how electricity works to name but a couple of my areas of ignorance.

That particular sentence should have been rephrased as it very much targets the individual, it was meant in more broad terms, about the psyche of human beings as a whole. Through our history. I will edit it later.
