So does this now put an end to this pointless bullying of the crash hat wearers of us non crash hat riders. As i will never wear one
(except to go racing) I'd even be happy to sign a form for the organizers to clear them if i didn't race with a hat and hurt my self.

Erm, no.

Most of the studies done and pretty much all discussions in the media centre around the effectiveness of helmets as a means of protecting commuters or road cyclists. Lets be honest, if you get hit by a car or truck, you've got bigger worries than the fact that you're not wearing a helmet. Not that a helmet won't help save your brain of course.

Move the arena to off road though, where the ground is littered with rocks and roots and lots of other nasty hard sharp pointy objects and it becomes pretty clear that putting a helmet between your head and aforementioned rock is a damned good idea.

Do what you want on the road.. a helmet isn't gonna save your head when a 4 tonne truck drives over your face, but ride off road without a helmet and I'll happily label you as a fool.

I regularly seem to whack my head on branches, so will stick with a helmet.

Oddly you saying that. The last time i hit my head was on a branch. My own fault my mobile went off and i was listening to my ring tone and not concentrating on the trail.
