Bristol Cars

Bristol Cars existed initially as a result of Bristol Aeroplane Company getting the license to build BMW engines immediately after WW2, when BMW was forced to move away from aero-engines.

That's quite a diplomatic way of putting things.

More honest / accurate would be to say BAC / Frazer Nash blatantly robbed the designs and technology of a highly advanced car post WWII when the BMW factory was pillaged.

Not to put a bad word against Bristol however.

As with Melvin, it has always been a huge desire for me to own a Bristol.

It is very easy to not understand what Bristol is about.

However, if you are lucky enough to understand them, not mush else even comes close.

As an aside, the reason why many may not have heard of the company is because it was policy never to use publicity, but rely instead on word-of-mouth.

It is diplomatic, yep. The designs were gained, I believe, as part of the American led Operation Paperclip to retrieve all avaliable technology, which in turn led them to develop a space program (and in a roundabout way, lots of amazing tech that greatly benefited cycling). In a roundabout way a similar thing happened to BAC with the American's post-war, due to the near-bankrupt state Britain was left in. An awful lot of technology was given away for next to nothing, or taken off of the Anglo-American Loan (which we only recently paid back in 2006).

Didn't really work though, did it. The word of mouth in Bristol has always been about the overall shonkiness, or annoyance at the lack of a showroom in the city - there's plenty of money around, but nowhere to spend it on a home-grown car. Bonkers business sense. It's a real shame.

Having seen these on the site only, it looks like they are stuck in the dark ages in terms of design.
Unnatractive, dated, and in some cases just ugly. Not sure who would buy them!

Really dont get the love sorry! :?

I think you posted this on the wrong thread. This is not about Overburys.

I've mulled this over, why 'Overbury's' as your example in particular? Is it deliberately to antagonise?

If so its a stupid example in answer to Gump's far more accurate Bristol statement and shows yourself up as having no knowledge of the Overbury's brand whatsoever.

Perhaps you did not mull long enough.

Are you so desperate for an argument that you are picking jokes to pieces, and criticizing them for their factual content?

Thoughts of your self appointed role as head of PR for Overburys never leave my head, it is all I ever think about.

Imagine my glee when an opportunity to slight the brand became apparent!

Or it could have been the connection with Bristol.

Geez.

I know F🤬🤬k all about Overbury's and have never claimed anything otherwise, if thats all you think about, you need help.

This is indeed intriguing.

I am a huge fan of extended range/ range extended vehicles, been following the Lincvolt project closely as I love the idea of rejuvenating old classics.

I am excited to see the results of this.

Long live Bristol!
