Anyone else long term single and genuinely happy?

Re:

I think happiness is something that would ideally not be dependent on others, but real life is generally somewhat different. One of my best friends has isolated herself from all of her family and will have nothing to do with any notion of a relationship. She has been travelling the world avoiding any kind of settling for so long I wonder if she will be equipped to deal with a relationship were one to come along.

She experiences intimacy vicariously through her involvement in other people's relationships; it is glaringly obvious.

I have known a number of people who seem to suffer low self esteem when not in a relationship, and that is painful to see, as no one should feel like that. There are so many positives to being single; and no once is really intentionally single if they don't choose that surely? Now we have social media and such it is so easy to get out there. Gosh must go my Grinder is beeping!

Are you saying there's no positives being in a relationship?

I'm not after a argument it's a genuine question.

Both have positives, but they vary for each individual.

There's a popular notion that everyone is happier in a relationship though. It's those of us that prefer singledom that are viewed as odd.

For me, i'm open to options, but i'm unlikely ever to cohabit again, just as an example.

Cohabitation,is a bit like buying a new car :D
Do it once great the thrill of walking into a showroom, and driving out a brand new doblo, but you can't recreate that again.

But then ... it would become a thread about almost all the men of the world, wouldn't it ... (one track/single speed) ...

e.

Well, it has been (scientifically) proven, that human being need meaningful relationships in order to even simply survive, let alone flourish.

Of course ... then there's the fellow named 'Dick Prenacke' (sp?) ... who can be seen in a wonderful documentary called "One Man's Wilderness" ... a truly amazing story, and amazing human being (I highly recommend everyone having a gander at the film!!!)
