Alimo - Dutch Benotto sub-brand (70-80s)

The above image is a scan of the original set of Alimo stickers that I found for sale (amazingly).

As you can see, the printing quality is pretty poor and the vinyl appears to have shrunk so I recreated all the artwork in Adobe Illustrator and added the top tube sticker. I also created a little "Made in Italy" sticker to be positioned near the base of the seat tube just to show the Benotto link and add a bit of prestige.

If there are any sticker specialists reading this, you are welcome to use my file to produce sticker sets for sale in exchange for a printed set for my restoration project. PM me for the illustrator file.

There doesn't seem to be much consistency with the Alimo frames, it looks like they are made from anything the Benotto frame builders had available. Some had Benotto stamped lugs, others had no mention of Benotto like mine, some have mudquard eyelets or don't, like mine.

The 22 pound (almost 10Kg) overall weight of my bike means that the tubing is probably chrome-moly at least.

The design and brazed on elements are very close to these early 80s Benotto Modello 850s

The Benotto Modello 850 was built with Columbus Zeta tubing - I wonder if the serial number on my bike will provide some useful info.

Perhaps it was Ishiwata 019 tubing

I think the tubing is most likely Ishiwata 019 Chrome Moly judging by the bike's weight.
My Peugeot Perthus was a similar size, had a later Shimano 600 groupset, Reynolds 753 tubing and weighed 21lbs. Columbus Zeta Sounds like it's quite heavy.

I'm going to weigh the frame and fork when I strip it for renovation, it should be late spring time or early summer of 2022 before I can do that though.

Hi Sid,

I am new on this forum and don't know how to pm you. I'd like to send this file to a decal producer and ask him to make me a decalset. My first 'serious' road bike was an Alimo 600EX/AE (this was also on the top tube). I was lucky to have a dura ace crankset on my bike which gave me a real pro feeling.
I found a frameset that resembles my Alimo, so a new project has started, building my old bike again.

Prum
