80 Miles Per Hour on British motorways?

Variable speed limits and average speed cameras at peak times would be the safest in my mind.

Nevermind the speeding issue, what about those little f*****s that undertake you at speed. I'd have them shot in the ass with an airgun.

That'll teach 'em.

Joking aside, I'm all for variable speed limits. There's nothing dangerous about doing 100+ on an empty motorway.

Really? Never had a blow out or a suspension failure then I take it?

I spent a good few years driving between very large trees on gravel at 100mph plus, and found it pretty easy until something broke. You are just a passenger from that point on. Now a motorway is much safer than the blind crests, car size ditches and stout trees of Kielder, but still pretty scary in a high speed spin or roll over.

As i said earlier in this thread, speed is not a killer in the right hands. Its driving standards that kill- I see plenty of drivers struggle to park in a car park space let alone handle a car at 100mph when a tyre goes.

Cars are so capable these days. I drove a nice Porsche a few weeks back and thought it didn't feel very fast. A glance at the speedo confirmed i was going rather fast indeed. My point is that modern cars lull you into a false state and encourage people to drive way beyond their personal limits. My guess this is a very large contributing factor to many many accidents.

Hear hear. If nothing else, you simply have less reaction time. A pal of mine who rallied a fair bit owned an Impreza WRX and said that the scary thing about it was that it was so competent that it lulled you into a false sense of security, usually until your mis-judgement let you down.

my ovlov does 40 at 1200 revs ....just faster than tick over ...60 feels like 30 in it...very easy to go fast in it so i have to watch the speedo all the time...

Yeah, they are almost as annoying as the braindead, selfish twunts who stay in the middle lane when not overtaking anything, aren't they?  :P

Yeah!

If it wasn't for those people,I would have done Manchester to Penzance faster than 4 1/2 hours, as I did on Saturday.

I have to ask why those 'little f*****s' had to resort to undertaking to get past you in the first place? If there was space available for undertaking why had you not used that space to get out of the way of faster moving vehicles?

If folk move over once they have overtaken a slower vehicle then undertaking would be only be something to do with oak boxes, tall hats and long black cars rather than a risky driving invonvenience.

Save you air rifle for those fools that stick their fog lights on at every opportunity and leave them on for the next five days. My personal pet hate.

Is that not quick enough? How fast on the A30?

That's 350 miles in 4 1/2 hours? Average speed of 77.8mph?

I think you may want to reconsider posting that on a public forum...

These idiots make space by intimidating and bullying other drivers.

Have you ever used a motorway?

The idea I get in the way, so others should undertake me is an odd one!!

I have been chopped up by drivers in so many different ways on the motorway. I use the motorway in the way it should be used, and keep left if and when it is safe to do so.

I started 1 mile from the M56 then M6, M5 and A30 with no stops.
Most of the A30 is national speed limit. It's also not 350 miles from door to door.

So I would say my average speed was way below 70mph.

I have never had points on my licence and have never been stopped whilst driving.
