80 Miles Per Hour on British motorways?

.

Don't get me started on HGV's
The number of times i've sat in a queue and the mrs has turned to me enquiering as to what i think the cause may be?
Look half a mile up the road and you'll see a pair of artics battling to overtake each other with a speed difference of 0.1 mph

No it doesnt matter so much its just the (now) age old argument that drivers skills are going a bit stale after a few years.

i must admit to pondering the hgv over taking thing many times. i have come to the conclusion that they do it to slow traffic down to make travelling on major roads safer.

The Rumour Mill has it that Cambs Police ignore you going over 70 on a dual carrigeway/ motorway unless you are ton up or driving erratically.

Much like the speed cameras not calibrating to the displayed speed on the over head displays on the M25, M42 etc, you have to be going plenty over 100mph to set them off....

Good point, never thought of that.
As thats the case, i dont think there is any need to 'raise' the speed limit.
If it aint broke...

Only reason for my 'does it matter' it that only applies to new drivers. The stale old drivers are still out there, with no updated knowledge, stuck in their old driving styles.

In theory and update to the tests should mean an update to everyone who drives.
When did anyone here last read the Highway Code? I last read it 15 years ago, when I took my motorbike test. Despite already being the best driver in the world, my driving improved considerably, through increased awareness.
I do believe everyone should be tested every 5 - 10 years, and new drivers after 1 or 2 years. Failure should result in a repeat test after some further tuition.
After all, driving is a priviledge, not a right.

I, er, read it on line last week. Just to be sure on a coupla things.

I'm a taxi driver, driving for a living exposes me to the worst of other peoples driving habits plus ending up with my own.
