2023 Orange Aluminium O, update 13/10/25

Purple accents. Soon to be wearing purple Hope wheels and rotors (they don’t fit in the ancient avid callipers so I have some black hopes). Also purple chainring bolts. IMG_0085.webp

Blue and purple are my favourite Hope colours, I have them on my Stage and Spur. Reckon I'd go blue on the O but either would work imo.

ok so i kind of went another way with this.

the Kona Kila-Honzo is no more :( it developed 2 cracks, i don't want to fix it, it would cost a lot and i never felt i got on with it, mainly because it felt more XC than trail, basically it had a steeper head angle than the Oranges i ride so felt twitchy by comparison. so a repair was kind of pointless, so that meant i had a full build kit from the Kona available.

now not every part was appropriate, for example the BB and headset were not the correct size, also i didn't want to use the sram axs mech and shifter because this frame has cable guides and i think it would look crap not to use them so i fitted and XT mech and shifter, i also kept the Lyric fork as i think it suits the retro-ness better than the modern brand cane-creek that was on the KH, i also stole the Hope brakes and reverb seatpost from my stage evo as i decided i wanted to play with that spec and that bike will not be used till next spring.

now the interesting thing for me is this, the kilahonzo weighed in at 26.6pounds (12.065kg), this weighs in at 27.3pounds (12.383kg), 318g difference! now you could say it's not the exact spec from the kilahonzo, but it's all equivalent stuff, similar fork, similar post, similar or same wheels and gearset. so i think that weight going from carbon to aluminium is pretty awesome.

edit, also included in this weight is the onboard tool kits and bottle cages, the tool kit is from Granite, a chain tool inside one end of the bar, a tubeless repair kit in the other, then a ratchet tool down the steerer, also a co2 assembly on the bottom of the bottle cage.

so spec wise it's this:-

clockwork evo 29 frame, painted as a Aluminium O
rockshox lyric fork 140mm
canecreek headset
USE bar and stem
ergon grips and saddle
reverb axs seatpost
xt mech and shifter
fsa cabon wheels
hop tech 4 X2 brakes and matching rotors
maxxis tyres
canecreek titanium cranks
absolute black chainring
e-13 12 speed cassette
muc off valves
hope bottom bracket
