1988/89 part lugged, part fillet-brazed Raleigh frame

I think it has been professionally made smaller, if you take a horizontal tube from the head tube it comes above the seat tube. Yes they would have used Shimano dropouts. the forks are a bit of a mystery too Gipiemme dropouts were road bike equipment used by Raleigh, never seen them on an MTB though... Just putting this out there and have absolutely no proof apart from knowing what Raleigh were like... This might have been a prototype/testbed frame that found it's way out of te factory...

Worksop (Nottingham), December, 1988... Definately a raleigh serial number...

Reminding myself of the Raleigh serial numbers, WS8 means it was made in Worksop [edit - Nottingham], December 1988, right?

Are there any other details about the frame I should check, tht would be of interest? Given the extra tubing from the modification, it doesn't really feel heavy to me, but I'lll take out the bottom bracket and remove the headset and weigh the frame and forks later.

yours looks like it was a huge frame, the top of the headtube had been cut off as it has no lugs anymore, its truely been altered beyond its original self

That's helpful, thank you. I measured the head tube yesterday when I was putting details into my frames spreadsheet - 132mm.

The Shimano bottom bracket code is MF - so June 1988 - suggesting it's the original. I don't have my bottom bracket tools here, so I won't be able to remove it until I get them from storage.

The Carlton factory in Worksop was closed in May ‘81 and the Worksop prefix was carried over to the Nottingham Lightweight Unit that opened in October ‘81.

It certainly appears to be very similar. I assume that's a (strange) design choice when it was repainted.

Finally managed to remove the bottom bracket. The frame weighs 2.2 kg and fork 1.0 kg, which is pretty much in line with what I'd expect.

I'm trying to decide what I am going to do with this. I have a few build ideas, but I'm not sure there's any way to build it to make it big enough for me.
