For use, I'm with you, I think rapidfire plus is great. But for longevity and robustness, then it's thumbies for me

Think it also depends on which shifters you have, got some very old M952 that have seen use on a lot of bikes and they still shift faultlessly.
On the other hand had some LX ones that were abysmal and didn't last five minutes.

My main reason for preferring rapidfire is the awful position on the bars of thumbies and that far outweighs the ease of feathering the front mech.
