Heat is the only way with some bottom brackets.

just had to remove 2 bottom brackets from a Rossin and a Guerchotti

and they would not have come out without the oxy/act torch.

especially with alloy bottom brackets as the alloy reacts with the steel and they weld themselves together.

also without heat to expand the threads outwards there is a chance that the alloy cup will rip the threads off the bottom bracket.

I wouldn't go taking a gas axe to a brazed frame if I were you.

botom bracket

Sorry but have been doing it for over 30 years

you just need to know how much heat to use

and have never had a problem

must have done over 100 in all those years

and more in seat posts.

use a number 1 tip and 5 lbs pressure in Acetaline and the same in Oxygen.

Each to his own.

I recall one bloke telling me how it was fine using his gas axe to free a seized brake pedal pivot bolt. He'd been doing that sort of thing for decades. Then he went straight on at the mere hairpin. Luckily there's plenty of run off there, but the hay bales made a mess of his nose cone.
