I've just bought a vitus 992 size 51 in excellent condition. Can anyone point me in the direction of a geometry chart for this model? I've been searching with no luck.
And I believe the seatpost size is 25.4, is that correct?

Thanks!

No idea on the post size. My FCK9 requires 23.X but that is another frame. On a sidenote: I happen to have a short steerer fork and headset parts for the 992 frame, but no frame. If you ever need them... drop me a line.

Can't help with the geometry, but this Canadian retailer....

....agrees with you re. the seatpost size.

Giroposte seem to be a NOS Vitus specialist so may be worth e-mailing them to see if they can offer any geometry info?

Thanks guys! If I ever need those parts, I'll be in touch, but the fame and all parts are in really excellent condition so for the moment I'm fine. I'm still not sure if I'm actually going to keep it, I bought the bike more for the parts than for the frame, so that might be on the bay soon. It's in such good condition though that I might just have to convince myself to keep it!

I'll email giroposte, maybe they can help with the geometry. Will let you know what they say.

I've got a 1983 brochure that has all the dimensions etc. on it but strangely not the angles. It actually says that the seat pin is a 25mm. I'll scan it later for you.

Thanks, that would be useful, but I think if it's from 1983 then it will be for the 979. The 992 is from '92 onwards, or at least I think so. Any idea if the geo was the same for both frames?

Sorry, yes it is only the 979 - should have read your post better :oops: :roll:

I suddenly recalled I have a Jan Janssen catalogue with the 992 in it. JJ carried the 992 in their line up for a couple of years. I checked ...and seems we're lucky :) The catalogue contains a chart for the 992 and the SC1 and CL1 mountain-frames.

Your frame is 51cm c-c I assume, as there was no 51cm c-t. Yours is the smallest.

Seattube = 52.5cm c-t
Toptube = 520mm
front axle to bracket = 582mm
bracket to rear axle = 398mm
Head angle = 70
Seat angle = 74

...and than there are a dozen more details. Let me know if you need to know more.

A seatpost diameter isn't mentioned, but Jan Janssen uses an own Vitus post for the 992. It looks almost identical to the one in my FCK9. Maybe it is identical. I hope it isn't, as that would imply a serious oddball size.

That's great, thanks! My frame is marked '51' on the headtube, but I'll check the measurements tomorrow to make sure they coincide with those that you've posted. I already discovered that the seatpost is 25.4, but I need to measure that too just to confirm. Any chance of a scan of that catalogue with all the details?
