Why is it some people wont ship abroad?

not really having a rant but i've noticed on the 'Bay,some sellers (especially Germans and some Americans) wont ship abroad,is there some sort of stigma or hassle to putting an International address on the goods as opposed to a National one?
Only reason i say this as i've seen some nice bits go on there that i cant bid for as sellers wont ship International,whats up with that?

and it can be fooking expensive

stuff goes missing/ gets damaged and causes even more trouble when trying to claim.

sometimes i've found that a polite email pleading for that coveted last part does the job.

it's the unknown factor, so i point them in the direction of my feedback on here aswel as ebay, the guys that are selling old stuff probably know of this fourm so sometimes it can help, i try and give them a way of sussing out who i am as it can take the fear that they are gonna get "done" away.

i can understand it a bit though, as ed says, forms= hassle, and then they have to listen the buyer grumbling about import tax and vat and how it wasn't worth buying from them after all, not to mention the normal worry of are they gonna like it or try and bullsh*t it has a crack and they want money off etc. atleast if it's in the same country you can say send it back, that way they have only lost the postage.

I used to send ebay items abroad, but from a seller's point of view it can be a lot of extra hassle.
Items can take forever to arrive, leading to claims that it has been lost, or you haven't posted it at all. For larger items you've got the hassle of finding the cheapest shipping method, and then getting it to the courier or picked up. It can often cost more than the value of the item to send abroad and get a reasonable delivery time.
These days I don't have the time to be messing about, so everything goes to the post office 5 minutes away, which means UK only, cos Parcel Force are too expensive for overseas.

Unfortunately I've missed out on a few items that I would have liked, due to sellers obsessively sticking to their "UK only" policy - so they'd post something from, say, London to Inverness, but won't post it to here (it costs no more, guys :roll: ). Their loss as well, however....

Mind you, I reckon that not living in the UK has many more advantages than disadvantages
