I have not dealt with the 350 million less 2 other people in US but know of the small number I have dealt with - on ebay - I was ripped off but too large a proportion. Since then I have not nor will buy from US on ebay.

Bad luck mate, I feel your pain. I bought a mint Gazelle Champion Mondiale roadbike from a seller on here... well, it was mint until he posted it to me and didn't put anything over the end of the hub axles, which put a dent in the frame. In the end I got some money back from the shipping company, and the seller helped me with this, but what was most upsetting was that this lovely roadbike had survived 25 years without getting scratched or dented, until a careless numpty couldn't be bothered to package the bike up properly.

Is your Goat just scratched or dented as well? If it's only scratches, look on the bright side, it could have been worse.

I regularly offer Champion Mondials through here, probably I offer even most CM's on Rb, but lets be clear on that it wasn't me.

I personally can't be tempted into full bike shipping and if it has to be done the wheels go seperately boxed up from the frame. Period.

I have bought thousands of items from US based sellers and only encountered a tiny number trying it on.

The hit rate is at least double with UK based sellers.

Sad but true. A disproportionate number of my bad eBay experiences have been with British sellers.

I was trading e-mails with the seller when he had it on Craigslist, (about 3 hours from me)...was really close to making the drive, but it was a bit big for me, so I passed. Seller did seem a bit odd, but can't beleive anyone would be so daft as to ship a classic bike all they across the Atlantic without any packing materials.

I know it's too late now, but whenever I buy a bike that needs to be shipped, I send the seller a detailed, but non-pushy, e-mail laying out how to best pack it to avoid damage. Most are thankful for the tips, but a few still just throw a frame in a box and slap on an address label. Have to remeber, just because they are gold to us, doesn't mean they're not just "an old junk bicycle" to the guys who ship them.

Some ppl are just clueless and can't be bothered to package things correctly. I purchased a bike from across the country. Numerous times I sent him requests to either have the bike packaged at a local LBS, or follow a couple of guides I found on the net. In the end he wrapped up a couple of key areas with some cloth rags he had lying around. Needless to say I was shocked when it arrived. But thankfully and too my relief it arrived in good shape. :roll:

Wow, I'm in agreement with utahdog2003 in being shocked on how you could come to such a gross over-generalization! i've dealt with many US sellers over the years, mostly on ebay and only had perhaps two issues. but neither of them have turned me off of purchasing from US sellers. There are bad sellers all around the world, to think they all live and deal from the US is preposterous. :roll:
