We were made for each other! Suitably Weird Roberts

It was 53/39 at the front and steep. Too steep. When it hit 15% I was done. Note incline behind bike. On the hunt for a 50/34 ish replacement.

Other than that, really nice. Silent, smooth, slow. Much nicer to ride than the SBDU I had. Tried the lowered stem but couldn't see comfortably. Prologo saddle nice. Must paint out the red flash.

Re:

What cassette do you have?

I had 52/38 on the Raleigh 853 (now on the Allez) and could climb most stuff with a 12-28.

That said, I probably wouldn't have been brave enough to have headed up a 15% climb on my first time out.

Re:

Don't be such a girlie  I found 39x23 sufficient on the steepest of hills.
So, do you have piccys?

Re:

Appols, hadn't seen pictur. What gearing have you got at the back mate?

Re:

If you work out the ratios, you may find a different cassette will give lower gearing than the same cassette and compact chainset. And what's cheaper?
I used a short cage road rear mech on a 3x7 mtb, so no worries about that either
Just an idea mate

Re:

Just worked it out for you mister.

According to this,

http://sheldonbrown.com/gain.html

A 34 x 25 gear is 33.32"

A 39 x 28 gear is 34.125"

Meaning you will travel less than one inch further for every complete crank revolution with your current chainset and another cassette, than you would with a compact chainset and your current cassette.

IF I have done my maths right, I think :?
