The Unofficial Official Photography Thread...

Some good (old) info here. In the past my old dad (a keen amateur) swore by lighter fuel carefully applied by cotton bud. Definitely don't use any lubrication on blades themselves. It will always leave a residue.
Cheers @chickendrumsticks I'll give that a read 👍

I've just given it another look (taken film out & furiously wound on & shot for 10 mins) & it seems to only stick when on auto aperture. so I can at least continue to use it manually

It could be the shutter operating mech itself, which is lubricated at time of manufacture. I wouldn't dare go there. Probably requires some disassembly - arrghh !

I'm not brave enough to take it apart 😅 hesitant to pay anyone to look at it either if I'm being honest.

The cost of film has pretty much priced me out of film photography as a hobby, might have to stick to the digital stuff from now on!

Anyone on here got experience fixing film cameras? 😅

Took the voigtlander vf135 out today & noticed the shutter blades were stuck open after taking a photo 👎

Seems to only be a problem on the fastest shutter speeds
Seem to recall that the shutter is electronic on those - is it battery related?

There's a strong possibility it could be battery related - it's meant to be using a mercury cell & I've got a standard lr44 in there with an adaptor. So it's never been an optimal setup 😂

(There are modern mercury cell alternatives, but it just comes down to cost again)

I can't remember the exact numbers, but there is a slight voltage difference between the two & the output of the lr44 voltage does drop off towards the end of its charge

I've been through a few batteries & this shutter issue has only just started though, so maybe not 🤷‍♂️
