The hows whys and wherefores of putting drops on a MTB....

I remember those coming out at a prototype stage.

They had good reviews and of course the main point was reliability of a simple mechanism.

Now the bad part.....they will work fine for on the hood riding and shifting, but ergonmically
they are awkward when in the hooks of the drops.
 
here's mine -







a mish mash of bits really, but it works very reliably. I have a V-brake at the front, which in theory shouldn't work with the road lever, but does, and a cantilever at the rear. In-line adjusters for the brakes. The shifters are RSX brifters, 7 speed I think. I have used a road front mech and mountain triple chainset - I had to use a clamp on cable stop for the front mech as the frame stops are for top tube routing.
