The " FOR SALE " forum.

I don't agree with that.
If you don't do pictures, you may not get a sale. But it, along with the decision to sell or not, is at the discretion of the buyer.

Pics would also be there to protect buyers. There was a rare frame for sale here recently by a seller with no previous posts. He was VERY reluctant to post pics on a public forum. Why? What could he possibly have to lose, other than a punter willing to Paypal £500 into the ether with no pics and no address, thinking he'd snagged a bargain by beating the folk who asked for pics.
Pics of the actual item would at least show it existed. They would help add some (admittedly small) protection for buyers from unscrupulous con men. (and laydeees)

I don't buy unless I get a picture or 2, even from people I know and trust - it helps prevent dissapointment and resentment afterwards.

To be honest unless there is a picture on the ad or linked I rarely even bother with the thread.

If you're loosing out to people that PM then why don't you PM instead of DIB?

I hate dibs!

There have been a couple of cases lately where sales have blatently turned into an auction, whether intention or not, this is not what the site is for.

I pulled the ads.

Sellers get pissed off with me- obviously actions which involve no price, then one price (which could have been descrived as lowish), then pondering in public while more higher offers come in was seen as acceptable behaviour.

I dont.

Currently the 'for sale' takes 90% of my time modding on here. We have enough rules really, we cannot watch all the time sadly. At the end of the day, dibs are shite, you either want it or not. If you think its a bargain but no pics, buyers choice..take a punt, or risk being beaten to it.

All I will say is that we want to avoid being a free auction site. If an ad is placed, I would expect it to sell for that. If there is evidence that more is being paid, please drop me a mail so we can keep track. Thats what ebay is for, this is a classifieds for/by enthusiasts.

That is all

:D

gump - well done :D
a lot of people on here have erm been more than helpful towards me and it is appreciated beyond belief
i often forget about the mods as you guys are in the background (heck we dont even see a lot of ads that are pulled)
so cheers for that too :D

Huntso captured the old spirit of this website when he said...

" Would say though that I feel all negotiations
should be on the thread, that stops any offers by
PM and transparency is good in case of any
disputes too "

TRANSPARENCY IS GOOD.

People who've had dealings with me know my policy; ride it like you stole it and if you don't like it FOR NO REASON AT ALL after a fortnight send it back for a refund.
Options could be...

- make " dibs " binding for 30 minutes.

- sellers to edit title to " offer made " then " sold " or " still for sale "

- dibs or PM either or but not both

- manners; read the ad, refresh the page to double check and if a dib's been made after refreshing the page have the common courtesy and patience to walk away and wait another day while the first-come first-served lucky dibber enjoys the XT of yesteryear.

I made a (cheap) purchase from Huntso and Paypal stiffed me for funds after the goods had arrived very quickly.

An apology was made by PM and he was a total gent about it. That's the way it should be, you shouldn't even for a second doubt a buyer or seller.

However even as a recently joined member I have noticed that this site is growing at a huge rate and a lot of the time it's new members charging straight in with sales. I don't like buying from people with no feedback or a low post count. Which is a shame really that you are wary of people.
