Who was that?!!?! Go on, give us a clue.... sounds like a proper cnut, I hate all that sob story crap, if you can't afford it, don't buy it.

Not naming, because I believe in second chances and I'm not a narc.

I'll mention it if they reveal themselves through their actions again.

Just left such a sour taste in my mouth.

P.S. I was the buyer and got out sob storied  The problem was theirs seems to have been a lie, so along with the post transaction insults, I felt gutted.

Sorry but that person deserves a name & shame...pretty low stuff.

I've been snaked to a set of wheels recently but couldn't be arsed to kick up a fuss about it....plenty more knocking about.

Bottom of page 1 will give a fuller account Neil..it may change your opinion.

Tricky one this...

My view would be to remove dibs altogether... In effect we operate a strict "buy it now" policy (to use the dreaded eBay terminology).

The way I would see it working is - item goes up for sale. Person who wants items posts to say they are buying. Payment is then sent in 30 minutes and confirmed by the buyer with another post.

If buyer does not pay within 30 minutes, seller (at their convenience) posts to say buyer has let them down and item is still available, thus embarrassing the original buyer...

If someone is daft enough to send the money without the posts - more fool them, if they cannot understand the rules... seller may refund...

Only downside would be everyone would need Paypal - but lets face it, that is most of us.

Other members are right the site is growing at a huge rate and not everyone is going to be a "Top Banana" so to speak... something need to done to keep the majority content...

Sorry, I can't let this go sunshine.
Firstly, It has nothing to do with the for sale section; you advertised in the wanted section for a rare, hard to obtain caliper that you needed.
I have one, and I offered it to you at £10 for the half.
You then gave me a sob story indicating that I should sell it to you for a fiver; in effect , after postage, packing and getting to the post office, giving it to you.
You acused me of having something against poor people.
I was getting thoroughly fed up with your attitude, so told you my situation (major heart surgery , blah blah, will only work for 3 months this year blah blah).
You apologised, which I accepted, and I did tell you I could not guarantee that the caliper would work without new seals. These only cost a couple of quid, but , no, you wanted a full guarantee, or money back. I sold one the same a few months ago, fully working for £30. Get the picture?
Yes I have just bought a new frame, but it was a bargain . I need full suss to help soften the bumps , as I get used to cycling again . In order to buy it, I had to sell my favourite bike ever, my much loved Dekerf. I would rather have kept that. Check the For Sale section here.
Oh, and I did not slag you off. In a PM I called you a tit. I wouldn't do THAT in public...

Most of that is rubbish and you know it.

This thread is about people lacking the initial retrobike spirit, your pm's to me characterise this (not saying I am perfect, I like banter, but you went overboard);

All I said was, the part wasn't really what I wanted, it looked corroded and you could not say if it'd work, consequently as I was between paychecks starting a new job, I couldn't afford that price.

You wrote a massive paragraph to me culminating in and the only reason I paid your high price for the part;

After long section on illness.

"It's been a hard time for my little girl, having daddy around but unable to really play with her, and I had promised her a trip to the cinema. That £10 would have enabled us to see 3D Toy story instead of Furry Vengeance.
Never mind, I hadn't told her yet."

Not to mention the additional stuff you wrote about cancer patients.

I do not care why (insert your new sob story) you bought a new frame.

YOU TOLD ME YOU COULD NOT PLAY WITH YOUR DAUGHTER OR AFFORD TO TAKE HER TO THE CINEMA.

YOU HAVE NOW BOUGHT A NEW BIKE TO RIDE AND YOU SENT BACK THE MONEY I SENT YOU TO TAKE YOUR DAUGHTER TO THE CINEMA.

YOU ARE NEITHER TO SICK TO PLAY WITH HER, NOR TO POOR TO TAKE HER TO THE CINEMA.

YOU SIR ARE A LIAR.

its not as simple as setting time limits.

both buyer and seller may not have easy access to PC's/internet, and even if they do, its not always possible to have an online presence 24/7, no matter how hard we Retrobikers try...

Its not an easy issue to resolve, but personally I think the system works well. most RB'ers have built up a raport and help each other out, those that cause problems dont get traded with again. Simples.

Items being snapped up within seconds of them being listed is my biggest gripe, but thats mainly as I cant be watching the FS forum like a hawk. You snooze you lose.

Ive found sellers operating a 'pay me first and its yours' policy a pretty fair one. But as above, some fellow RB'ers will hold an item for you purely as a kind offer. If you let them down they let you down.

I had to pull out of a deal on a set of brakes I was desperate for recently due to sudden cash flow issues, but they had been on hold for a while when I pulled out (still feel bad about that!). I would happily offer a discount/same terms to this member if he wanted anything I put up for sale.

Sounds suspiciously like banter that has turned into a mis-understanding to me.
Is it just me or was the whole daughter/cinema thing a red herring? (perhaps not to be taken seriously?)

Either ways, this is way better than Eastenders....what will happen next? .....

sadly seems like a repeat episode of eastenders to me!!

I agree with Harry

Hate to say it, but maybe the avforums approach is the way to go. Seller posts item with price they want + pictures, buyers then flock in and either offer asking price, in which case they go to PM's to sort addresses/payment etc, or offers are made, and whichever is accepted is then deemed to be the final selling price and the rest is discussed in PM's.
That way, everyone can see who bought what and there can be no arguements about who got in 1st, or who gazumped who.

Just a thought.

speaking of gazzumping, how about we adopt the 'Scottish' approach?

sealed bid's handed in before a deadline.
