Some help with identifying a Kona (believe it is a 91 Exploisf)

Old School Hero
Am looking to trade my '94 Stumpjumper FS M2 frame for this at my local used parts shop.

Toptube measures 22.5" which the Kona catalog suggests it is a 17" frame.
Centre of BB to top of seattube measures 19" (17" to centre of TT)
Serial: F1021959

Someone has added a cable guide to the top tube for V-Brakes. It looks professionally done.

With the built-in seat collar and the add-on rear rack mounts I wanna say it is 1991 build. Bottom of seat tube is oval and wider than rest of seat tube.

I currently own an OG P2 fork with Impact headset to do a rigid build.

ideally I would love to paint it the Pistachio (green) colour - it was an Imron colour but I am pretty sure my paint guy can match it from photos I have on hand.

I am assuming decal sets are available somewhere?

Anyone able to confirm anything based upon the serial?

As always, Thank You all in advance for your help - this community rocks.

Full build pic is for reference on the repaint colour.

There is nothing to suggest it isn't a '91 Explosif, serial number would match as would the tubing. It "could" be a '92 Explosif Pro, which in reality were just the leftover frames from the previous year with a custom paint option. The black Pro's tend to have a slight metal flake which it doesn't look like this one has, but hard to tell from the photos.

Isn't that added cable guide just a stick on plastic one (assuming you mean the one in the 4th pic)?

Very possibly may just be a stuck on item. I didn't want to try prying off as it is not mine yet.

Having seen the '92 Pros I am gonna say no it is not. Basic deep black paint.

Thanks. I do believe I shall go ahead with the trade.

Again... not that I need it anyway.... and hell, already five or seven projects ahead of it... but I have always wanted a 90-92 so, this will fit the bill nicely.

'91 Explosif, the '92's have a seat clamp, though some unused '91 frames were used in '92 hence the added rack mounts. Both same frame so not really an issue. Black was an option anyway in '92, the pro only had different spec components than the normal explosif.

Brought it home today. I have been sicker than a dog this week so no real work on it.

Need to locate a proper dog collar for the rear brake cable routing. And it turns out my P2 forks are too short on the steerer, but buddy does have a few other pairs I can look at once I am feeling better. And yes, looks like the "add on" guide is just stuck on there so I'll be pulling that off as well.

Anyone have an 1 1/8" threaded Impact Headset in good shape they wish to part with?

Am seriously leaning towards it ending up as a 1X10 after I do a classic 3X7 build up. Yes I shall do a build thread for it once I get to working on it.

Thanks again folks for all your help.

Another bucket list scratched off my dream list.
