so ,the mustang thread ?

Still kinda on topic but maybe a little tangent. .

The 2 bikes I got off my sister earlier in the year (the '93 Saracen and Ridgeback) were in darn'd fine condition, probably not covered more than a handful of miles each.. stored under cover pretty much since purchase.

She passed them to me, her parting words were along the lines of :
I don't really need a bike but I'm going to get one of the ones Tesco have just got in, they're really nice . .

She's not prone to buying crap.. all her Louis Vuitton is genuine (and there's a lot of it)..

Perhaps it's something in the water?

Steve McQueen and James Dean drove Porsches.

Gap toothed inbred Yugoslavian peasant farmers drove Yugos.

Nice to know which camp you prefer.

The Yugo driver may not have a strong look but for every James Dean or Steve McQueen in a porsche there will be 20 well moisturised city boy tossers in their boxsters. So basically I'm unusre where this analogy is going.

Didn't a prominant RB member have a Boxter?? I think he was a hair dresser or something.

Hey - stop the Boxster bashing  I could quite happily own an 'S' :D even if my hairdressing skills are lacking somewhat

Didn't James Dean die horribly in a Porsche......live fast, die young, leave a horribly mangled body  Result he probably looked as ugly after death as those hideous Yugoslav farmers you mention Si

I suspect former Yugoslavian Republics farmers are as normal as you or I and only drove Yugo's for economic and political reasons.

I spent a night in a Yugoslav jail on the Austrian border when I was just 16. They were anything but normal Velo

My crime?? Having attempted to gain entry on a one year passport despite being told back in the UK that it was valid. My friends bribed the guard with 200 ciggerettes to let me out eventually. Within 6 months the country was at war. I didn't shed a tear for them.

I can't see the problem in having a site that covers all retro bases. :?

I have little interest in bikes made before 1988 or after 1995.
I have little interest in top or bottom end brands I've never heard of.
I have no interest in road bikes and very little in bmx's.
I have little interest in brands I didn't care for bitd.
I could go on......

Thing is, no one forces me to open threads about stuff mentioned above so I often don't. If I see a bike I like on here I will post a positive comment, if a bike doesn't float my boat I leave the comments for others.

Don't really see what the huge issue is? :D

My view to.
I started MTBing on a Mustang :)

I have watched these threads with amusement...

I think bikes that bring nostalgia have just as much a place as 'dream machines' round these parts. As a lad I had a raleigh mustang, a team banana, and an ascender. They all died a death down the pit or on the local bridleways, whereas my first proper MTB (a Diamondback, 1995) is still going strong (well, the frame and forks anyway). That doesnt mean we didnt all love those old heaps. Id still ride one now, just for a giggle, In the same way I hanker after the first car I ever drove. But I wouldnt use either every day!
