So my earlier thread / too many injuries enough now - really bad news and it feels they delayed it…cynical

Agreed.
Mind you, what we need here is Retrobike sponsored by Voltarol or Mounjaro 🤣

Ha my ads suggest viagra and Razzle:
@john The issue is not resolved, advertising is still quite adult. Can we please have this ad removed? I am in no way interested in being subjected to this constantly on my screen. Do I need to keep my phone hidden from wife and children in order to view retrobike?
View attachment 1013146There are also looping gifs which push far beyond what is acceptable

Maybe the competitors sign some sort of waiver which absolves Red Bull of any liability?

Absolutely😄
It's just surprising that it's legally Watertight. 🤔

Cigarette packets used to have a warning on them.

Ultimately didn't stop the manufacturers being liable.

IIRC Martyn Ashton was seriously injured after a comparatively low (~3m) fall. Where do you draw the line with height limits?

Extreme athletes (professional and recreational) choose to do these things fully aware of the dangers.

But the competition moves into more and more dangerous territory, to attract viewers, to attract advertising money, to make the rich and comfortable brand owners feel the thrills.

When do you get off, abandon your career, sponsorship, lifestyle?

It's like doping in the tour again.
You could be ba fantastic road racing cyclist, but if you weren't prepared to dope, many teams wouldn't have you, and you'd be unlikely to win against equals that were.

The organisers have a responsibility to keep the risks and dangers manageable.

Iom tt?

Agostini refused to race there any more after another friend was killed - then it was dropped from official World championship status.

Exact

The rate of injury is an important sign. And it was very high this year in Rampage. Some kind of threshold seems to have been reached...injury to date has been sporadic and with the volatility you would expect with the stats of small numbers, But it does make sense that something has changed...expectations have escalated, pressures have increased, and features have been built BIG. UP has gone the ante, and perhaps to an elevated level of risk which does cross a threshold. The Singletrack editorial is unprecedented in tone (thanks for the link CA). It's important not to forget the DESIGN of events - they may start small but if the only way they can go is in one direction and that direction will lead to trouble, then there's something intrinsically wrong with it.
