SNP Encore...

Scotland signed the act of union in 17something which means we unified voluntarily even if under duress, we were not invaded and forced into the UK. Consequently leaving the union should not require the permission of the West Minster government although a referendum of the people is required.

Facts though are UK government wont let us go without a fight be it of the legal constitutional variety. They'll just pull the Cunningham Amendment back out the cupboard which will banjax any independence just like the last referendum on the subject.

The Amendment stated that a set percentage of the total potential vote in the referendum must be in favour. Cunningham an MP of scots birth but representing an English constituency new that in any UK election in the last few decades has never achieved full voting by all enfranchised people.
Thus say 51 % of the actual vote in favour does not represent 51% of the potential vote. All completely legal and completely fair but completely buggers up our chances of independence unless a miracle occurs.

I'd settle for more Scottish Assembly powers such as tax raising etc.

My mothers maiden name is Wallace............CRY FREEDOM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK I cried freedom, but all I got was shoosh! from the old trout.

I think the SNP will retain power in the next election, and with ten years I reckon they will make compelling arguments for further powers for the Scottish Government, and amendments to the conditions surrounding the referendum are possible.

However, if enough powers are given over I would be happy enough with that.

After all, it is a beneficial relationship on the whole.

i do wonder if with everything going on..seperation from the union..wether it's a people want or a politicians plaything

i dont think we want seperation from the union as a nation
but some more means to self determination wouldnt go a miss

i wouldn't go telling everyone how good it is up here either

Scottish granny, Welsh mother and born in England, so i'm a true Brit, why can't we all just get along

Anyway, wasn't it a Scottish monarch that came to the English thrown during the Union, so really the Scots took over the English.

I'm in 2 minds about full independance, but full tax raising powers and choices over strategic defence and other infrasctucture would be welcomed before we made the commitment to full independance.

At the last election I gamble on their speeches and tactically voted SNP. At this election I voted with full confidence in SNP as they have done pretty well and haven't broken many promises, not bad considering the turmoil of the last term.

My biggest concern over independance would be the road network, it is appalling up here and not due to get better anytime soon. the only quality roads seem to be ones that head up from england.

Good luck guys, it can't happen soon enough!

Cheers

Jon
