Shimano FD-M735 confusion

Mine says CH.

I can't believe that I'm being so geeky to go out in the man cave and find what it says on the back of a front mech that doesn't have a twiddly screw.

You love it really :mrgreen:

CH is 1978 August, so I take it the C is an O then (1990)

I think my sticker has gone now :? Can anyone make it out from the picture above ? (I am viewing on the phone)

WD :D

This is looks like what Shimano calls a "running change" which means they put it in mid-year before the next range came out and therefore did not rename it. There is no alteration to the appearance of the product and only a minor alteration to the function, which most users will not be aware of.

I'm aware of umpteen of these running changes just for the 3 years I was working with them. I really wouldn't want to bore you with the details of how they improve the workings of a tourney rear mech pulley - but suffice to know, it's normal practice.

It is except they explicitly mention the improvement/design feature and design alteration in the catalogue. Even highlight it in 1992 and 1993. It does also change its 'function' not in a large way it still derails a chain but it did require a new instruction leaflet on how to use it the new feature.

Normally for these alterations (I have noticed) they would usually put a suffix change to it. But i've not seen what the suffix change might be ?

and that just spoils the small geeky fun here ;)
do you still have the running changes for this period ?

-----
OD and NK for the non adjusters and 0K for the adjuster mech

O = April 1990 (1990 model)
N= Nov 1989 (so in 1990 model)

0K Check the 0, it probably has a faint line in it or through it ? May be why you posted 0 and not O ? That means Q (I''ve seen Q, 0 and and a rotated Q before)
Nov 1992, though if you meant O then Nov 1990 (so 1991 model)

O= 1991

It's a 0 with a line through it, I thought that was the normal method of denoting a "zero" rather than a Q. In this case then it would be a Q.

All very interesting :D

Wow, a lot of replies. I really like those things, maybe I'm just a bit perfectionist, but I want the correct information on my website.
No it makes a bit sense, but still funny they didn't change the code.

For example the RD-M737 has been changed to M739, but they looks exactly the same. The RD-M732 and M735 look exact the same. Only If I'm correct I remember I noticed the M735 has new return spring like the RD-M910.

Am I the only one how likes to know these things? :D

Just checked the 1991 catalogue and it also mentions the adjustable return spring for XT and emphasises it with a big arrow and highlight. (these catalogues where printed end 1990, I haven't scanned it all and cannot remember the month)

M735 had the same return spring as in M900, it didn't get the M910 spring until M737 afaik. I say that, that should be I've never seen one with that spring in it.

The FC-M735 had suffix placed after it to designate things like the ring changes (move to SG, SGX etc... over the years.
I also think the RD-M732 has a slightly different colour 'black compared to blue/black front part? maybe with a hint of sparkle.
Not sure which way around it is ? Text was the same colour though.

Also I remember you mentioning FD-M736, well they would have the tension adjuster always as they where not out till 1992 models which had the adjuster anyway.
