Shimano FD-M735 confusion

737/739

Jokey wheels changed, I think 739 got the sealed bearings of M900 and M950, the rest internal ? the coating on the pins ?

Just found out by looking to the derailleurs
The M739 has a silvercoloured plate on the backside of the cable clamp. Where the bolt goes into the derailleur itself on the M737, here it bolts in the silver plate. So you don't waste the derailleur when stripping the threads by over tensioning.

This thread covers some of the differences:

The 737 had a shorter upper pivot bolt, and a shorter upper knuckle than the 739. The 737 had a plain, chromed cable clamp washer, while the 738 version was black and tabbed.

Shimano weren't always very consistent about updating model numbers to take account of small running changes. For example, there were two very different M735 pedals.

What is a knuckle?

I only knew there were M730 pedals, M731 and M735 and M737 (spd)

I like this thread :) and think I need more parts, to see differences between parts from close.

I meant the cast upper part of the derailleur body that houses the top pivot bolt. The RD-M737 pivot bolt is shorter than the M739 model, so its housing is also correspondingly shorter. "Knuckle" may not be the best word to describe it, but I tend to refer to the cast parts at either end of the parallelogram as the upper and lower knuckle.

There were two versions of the PD-M735. The first had a conventional axle with a dustcap at the outer end of the pedal body. The second used the PD-M737's cartridge axle in a closed body:

Shimano kept the same part number for both.

Just to add some clarity / confusion (delete as appropriate ) :

Both are marked as 735's and both are the metalic black (rather than the gloss black of the 732). Not sure if they are O's or 0's but both characters look identical and the codes are :

0F - no adjuster
0L - with adjuster

The one with the adjuster has a slightly different shaped back cage - Other than that they are identical - castings marks and everything else :D

not read all this post yet
but that looks like 2 different mechs
not any shared parts that i can see

That will be the confusion option then

Defo the same dude, the camera angle / perspective / adjustment angle may not do the pic any favours but comparing the parts in front of you - identical other than differences listed above :D

That is quite a large setting screw you've got in there. Is that to set the derailleur while riding? :D
