Sensible frame material site

All right, this might be getting a tad too tube nerd, but this site has lovely tables on comparing tubesets:

http://www.desperadocycles.com/Tubing_Properties_For_Non_True_Temper_Tubing.htm

According to it, Tange prestige has .1/.4/.7mm ttop tube butted diameters while the Ishitawa steel on my 'new' Fuji has 1.2/.9/1.2.

[0.1 mm steel!!? Is this true?]

They're both double butted cro mo.

That'll be why the Stumpjumper floats off if I don't strap her down, while the Fuji cost a squillion groats to post from the States.

No!

It's a 7-4-7 tube for a road racing frame. Prestige was never made in less than 8-5-8 for mtb (Ultimate Superlight), but this table seems to pre-date that by quite a few years. Note how the lightest 'off-road' set at that time weighed 5.7lbs!

Karl Strong seems to be quite an excellent frame builder - I haven't looked recently, but last time I did his reviews on mtbr were almost unbelievable (but no doubt true all the same)
