I support what you are saying Sinner.

I am often to be found gathered around a laptop in the middle of nowhere with a half dozen mates.

I use ever last one though, over the course of a night.

:)

......lol.thankfully mate, it was the end of the nite ride, around a dining table, with a hot drinks and a warm fire burning, (it was a cold nite 6-8 months ago)........if i was in the woods, in the dark with a group of mates, i would more than likely have been accused of "dogging"........lol, followed by my face being on the red tops the following morning..........lol :D

Having the same innuendo made, over and over doesn't appear to be fixing anything, moving it forward, or doing anything more than reinforcing the underlying disenfranchisement.
I don't know if Rob had a specific reason for starting this thread now, but where's the harm in it?
That's disengenuous, and you know it - so don't play innocent about it. The guv hinted at it being troublesome waters on the first page of the thread.

Your previous reply suggested you were discussing it "for the good of the community", and this reply ("That's why...") suggests you accept that the repeated labouring of this theme isn't good for the community.
Exactly. There's a balance to be struck. It doesn't surprise me that we disagree on where that point of balance is to be found.
Well it doesn't seem to be improving - it just seems to be festering under the surface.

Whilst I'm sure there are times when tensions do run high, I don't recall the same degree of prolonged BOTM related squabbling in years gone by.

If you concede "There are moments of bitterness, true" then what are you really arguing about, there?
I'm asserting my disagreement with your claim that the dominant tone is one of bitterness, obviously.
My exact words, were:-

Do you think the squabbling that such discussions and divisions it appears to reinforce, are also good for the commuity?

How many BOTM threads, and BOTM fallout threads have had the same or similar discontent raised?

I mean, FFS, it all just sounds so bitter.
I didn't use the term "dominant", that was your invention - so I'd appreciate you not putting words in my mouth that weren't there, is there any real need?

I did say "sounds" - and I show context for that above, and I stand by that - the repeated, ongoing, underlying discontentment that seems to be repeatedly hinted at, by some, about the BOTM votes, in recent months, does "sounds so bitter" to me.

I'm not claiming that the forum is so bitter, or the concept of BOTM has become so bitter, merely one side of the ever-reoccurring, hinted, but nothing-more-really, accusation that there's trouble at'mill.

What "creepy, snide digs"?
Oh, FFS, this entire thread, the comments on the previous BOTM threads, and fallout threads - that became so sniping, posts were deleted from the BOTM thread, and a different voting system imposed.

So those creepy, snide digs.
I really don't get what you think is creepy or snide about this thread.
To be explicit - which I think this entire topic would be more well served with, rather than resentment bubbling under the surface, again, and again - what I think is creepy and snide, is the repeated insinuations about votes, sock-puppetry from some; about people "knowing" this, but yet not disclosing it - either when it's discussed, or to the mods.

Because this topic keeps rearing it's ugly head, with rumours and innuendo, is doing nothing than prolonging the argument, and resolving nothing other than reinforcing whatever divisions or factions are on both sides.

A simple question for you: after 6 pages of this thread, and similar themes being hinted at in several previous threads, how is it any further forward, or nearing resolution?

However, accusations of one member with multiple accounts were cast, and shouted........and wrongly so...!!!! these incorrect assumptions were sorted by john, who, did get to the bottom of the matter very quickly, and establish that there were 3 users using the the same laptop, on this one occasion.
I wish he'd let me know. I went several months assuming you were all the same person.
That must have been hell for you...

How did you cope? The usual? Pills, therapy, and self-help CDs?

Or has the repeated, accusatory, discussions on these themes made it all bearable?

I'm often surprised by how frequently John exercises his proprietorial right, but this is his site, and that's his business. I don't know if Rob had a specific reason for starting this thread now. I don't see any harm in it.

It's such a tiny part of the total traffic. I honestly couldn't say if it's increased or diminished since my arrival here three years ago. One problem in resolving any of these issues, of course, is that all the interesting threads keep getting locked before any resolution can be reached.

I wasn't quoting you directly.

If "it all just sounds so bitter", bitterness has to be the dominant tone. If there are little notes of bitterness in among the humour and straight discussion, bitterness isn't dominant. I don't perceive much bitterness. You perceive much bitterness. We differ. No surprise.

Because this topic keeps rearing it's ugly head, with rumours and innuendo, is doing nothing than prolonging the argument, and resolving nothing other than reinforcing whatever divisions or factions are on both sides.
Perhaps it could use some more constructive direction from the chair.

As Zhou Enlai said, "it's too soon to tell".

What is the beef here?

It is as easy as pie to register multiple accounts.

Why though?

...and why worry about it?

This was a thread I started out of curiosity, not worry. Use your imagination as to the "why?"

I reckon one-eyed_jim & Neil are really the same person using two accounts.
Either that, or they are married to each other!

well I always had a sneaking suspicion that neil was the guvnor in disguise

Neil refutes this vehmently though

Glad this has stayed civil, find that quite heartening given the disparity of views.

I am actually quite serious that if people do suspect others of having multiple accounts I would like to know! Manipulating the BoTM vote is way lame but perhaps worse would be users manipulating discussion using multiple accounts.

@Sinnerman. However you dress it you really stitched yourself up with the incident in question. Given your input into the site since I'm glad we sorted it out, however suspect on other boards you might not have been given the opportunity.

As for the identity of sinnerman's (virtual) mum and dad I never did bother looking through the logs, there was an episode of Bergarac I'd not seen on ITV3, you know how it goes.

A somewhat lackadaisical attitude John. I'd have been straight on the phone to the UN and begged for the blue hat wearing independent observers to flood the posts of Retrobike looking for the truth. I mean, democracy is at stake here. As it is with the corruption, conspiracy and malpractice that is now rife on this site it is only a matter of time before the Express picks up on it and the Retrobike scandal will be on the front page for months to come relegating their perfectly rational reporting of Al Fayed's lucid and considered views on the murder of his son and Dianna to a rare column every once in a while under some "50% off spam at Asda" coupon.

Of course if it was a repeat of Rosemary and Thyme I'd have understood.

Look. Captain Emoticon strikes again.

I am not gibbleking.

Or any other members.

Personally I have no opinion on this topic. But it does make good reading.

I do feel some people may have multiple accounts. This is just from feelings from the way they write things and what they say.
