Wow! There's me been away for a few days building flat pack furniture and it's all kicking off!
Does BOTM mean a bit more now that you get a feature in a mag and a free subscription? Is it really worth it? What started out as being a pleasant forum is in danger of becoming a bug-eyed monster in the last 18 months or so with flaming messages, mass arguments etc... Constructive criticism is great but after all that aren't we all friends here sharing the same love of retro machinery that so many others shun?
I agree, but there are a large group of people who would not agree. They would look down on you, while asking, in a tone full of contempt, "who are you", as they say and do what they want, all while believing that they will never meet you in person. I'm positive some of the tone taken, and things said, would not be, if the meeting was in person.
I believe that among this group there are people with multiple accounts, one for keeping their names unsoiled, and the other for fraternizing with the commoners. I understand elitism when it comes to road bikes and pro road cycling, etc; along with PEDs, it's part of that culture. mountain biking was suppose to be different. We have members on here, who only post in a self-important, self-serving manner, who are quick to question the contribution of others, while contributing nothing themselves. They are obvious trolls with or without the dummy account, yet don't get censured or banned.
I have one name/account here, on mtbr, on ebay. Is that the best policy for being a "successful " mountain bike collector? Apparently not, but I'd have it no other way. If this comes across as sanctimonious, then you are misinterpreting it, as I'm no one's moral superior. People should just stop the shit, and get off their high horses.
