Re:

That saddle's a cracker

Apparently it was owned by the guys dad who used it about 4 times then put it at the back of garage and there it stayed!!, the free wheel was seized and it needed a good clean, a very lucky find off ebay at a silly price. :)

Re:

My dad's 97 Raleigh avalanche had cantilevers on so this is probably 2000 Ish. Budget raleighs we're never up to date with cutting edge technology and the latest kit, hence the 1" threaded head tube for example. at the time, disk brakes were around, 27speed gearing etc so it's hard to date but somewhere around the turn of the century would be about right

Anyway it's Nothing to get too excited about, it doesn't really have any retro appeal but it's in pretty impressive condition :)

Im guessing you have fitted the v-brakes to it as it wouldve had canti's originally, if its the original spec stx-rc rear mech, then id say its a 96/97 raleigh max chromo-II, i had a chromo-I in blue and it had full microdrive altus on it, tbf it rode really well and i loved it!

Definitely retro and in that condition very desireable, i like it and as long as you do too, then enjoy it!!
